The Witcher 4’s latest release date update is out so sharpen your swords, replay The Witcher 3, and prepare yourselves for what’s to come.

Gamers, gather ’round! We have some news, and when it comes to The Witcher 4, we’d take anything at this point. If you’ve been sharpening your silver sword in anticipation, you might want to sit down, take a deep breath, and maybe even pour yourself a strong drink.
Patience has always been a virtue in the world of gaming, but The Witcher fans? We’ve taken it to a whole new level. Ever since CD Projekt Red first whispered the words “new Witcher saga,” we’ve been watching, waiting, and endlessly speculating about what’s to come. Will we see Geralt again? Will Roach still have a habit of spawning on rooftops? The anticipation is enough to make even the most seasoned monster slayer antsy.

CD Projekt Red, the studio behind The Witcher series, has finally spoken about when we can expect to dive back into their beautifully brutal world of monsters, magic, and morally ambiguous decision-making. But let’s just say, this timeline is more twisted than a cursed swamp witch’s prophecy. You thought The Wild Hunt was a test of patience? Think again.

So, here’s the deal, in their 2024 earning conference, CD Projekt Red stated that The Witcher 4 will not be arriving by the end of 2026. This means that the game is now eyeing a 2027 release. If that made you involuntarily sigh, you’re not alone.
Now, let’s rewind for a second. Back in 2024, during The Game Awards (TGA), CDPR had confidently declared (via GameRant) that The Witcher 4 entered full production in November 2024. That’s right, full production. Not light tinkering or preliminary brainstorming, but full-fledged development.
Naturally, this got fans excited. We thought, that maybe by 2025, we’d get a trailer, and by 2026, we’d be deep into our first playthrough, contemplating whether to romance a sorceress or just go full lone wolf.
But alas, the gaming gods had other plans. In a move that feels like being hit by a Leshen out of nowhere, CDPR has basically told us to sit tight for another few years. And at this point, we’ve become masters of waiting. First, Cyberpunk 2077 made us wait and then made us wait for it to be actually good. Then, we waited for The Witcher 3’s Next-Gen update. And now? We’re waiting for The Witcher 4 like it’s a Griffin we need to lure out with raw meat.
CD Projekt Red’s delayed releases are worth it?

It’s no secret that CDPR likes to take its time, which is understandable. After all, good things take time, especially when it involves open-world storytelling, RPG mechanics, and making sure Geralt’s hair flows majestically in the wind. But announcing that the game was in full production in 2024 only to follow up with potentially releasing it in 2027 feels like a classic case of overestimating one’s potion-brewing skills.
Could this mean they hit unexpected development roadblocks? Possibly. Maybe they decided to switch engines again, maybe they’re being extra careful after the Cyberpunk 2077 launch debacle, or maybe there’s an elite team within CDPR dedicated solely to perfecting a next-gen Roach physics engine. We can only hope.
That being said, if history has taught us anything, it’s that waiting for a Witcher game usually pays off. The Witcher 3 set the bar so high that even a flying Basilisk would struggle to clear it, so it’s understandable that they don’t want to rush things. But 2027? That’s practically another console generation away!
So, fellow Witcher fans, what do we do in the meantime? Replay The Witcher 3 for the 47th time? Dive into Gwent like it’s our full-time job? Either way, 2027 feels like a long way off, but if CD Projekt Red can deliver another masterpiece, the wait might just be worth it.
