The Last of Us fans are hyped following a tease from the Naughty Dog chief Neil Druckmann as they prepare for the series to come to an end.
I can remember when I first played The Last of Us in the form of a demo that was bundled with 2013’s God of War: Ascension developed by fellow famed PlayStation developer, Santa Monica Studio. From that moment, I fell for the series and judging by its passionate fanbase, I’m not alone.
Ever since The Last of Us was first released on the PlayStation 3 in 2013, it has spawned a sequel, remasters, a remake and even a critically acclaimed live-action TV series from HBO. Those of you who are familiar with attempted video game adaptations will know that few have seen a great deal of success.
The Last of Us Part II was initially released for the PlayStation 4 in 2020 and to say that Naughty Dog had taken players on a rollercoaster of emotions would be an understatement. Now, fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of The Last of Us Part III.
At this time, we don’t know when The Last of Us Part III will be released, seeing as it’s not been officially revealed. What’s more, Naughty Dog has been busy for the last four years developing its new game, a sci-fi adventure called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
That being said, despite not being officially revealed, Neil Druckmann has teased that if we do get The Last of Us Part III (we all know it’ll happen), it will likely be the concluding chapter of the post-apocalyptic series starring Joel, Ellie, Abby and co.
“Neil Druckmann teases ‘concept’ for The Last of Us Part III. ‘There’s probably one more chapter to this story’,” posted Reddit user GroundbreakingSet187, sharing an article from IGN.
While undoubtedly excited for the next game to arrive, fans of The Last of Us on Reddit are preparing to say goodbye to the beloved series.
“As two of my favourite games ever, hopefully, I’ll never stop wanting to play Naughty Dog games. The TLOU games specifically always make me feel tense. It’s a feeling I don’t get with many other games,” explained Adziboy.
“I’m a huge fan of the series but I hope it’ll stop at Part III unless we get a spin-off like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy,” said hiphopdowntheblock.
“I hope that they continue the franchise after Ellie but as a standalone story on a different continent. This franchise is too good to drop,” replied IamYourHuckleBerry34.
Hopefully, Naughty Dog will give us a big update later this year on The Last of Us Part III and should that information drop, we’ll be sure to update you right away.
The Last of Us Part I and Part II are available now on PC and PlayStation. Season two of the TV series is expected to arrive in Spring this year.
