When Spanky_NL created a thread on r/RDR2 asking why Arthur kept a flower in a jar, little did they realise their post would lead to an interesting discovery.

Not only is this the favourite flower of Arthur’s deceased mother, but its appearance actually holds a deeper gameplay-related meaning.

According to Substantial-Tone-576, the flower will “change and die” if Arthur has the “lowest honour” rating.

User Link17_18 seconded this explanation, saying, “Pretty sure it dies low honour, and flourishes high honour.”

This claim, however, has been contested by other users.

Instead, they claim that the flower wilts regardless of your honour ranking as a way to symbolise “everything going to shit”.

Similarly to the other theory, this was also backed up by another source.

“That’s his health bar, literally. It dwindles with his health,” commented Adventurous-Equal-29.

Seeing as this is the first time we’ve taken notice of this flower beyond it being a touching sentiment, we can’t confirm or deny what either party claims.

Nonetheless, while the reason for the flower decaying is up for debate, the fact that its appearance alters over time is a gameplay feature many won’t have spotted.

Whatever its true in-game mechanic is – assuming it has one beyond its sentimental value – it’s yet another reason we still talk about this Rockstar title.
