With one last (hopefully) round of delays before Assassin’s Creed Shadows comes out of the oven, some are grateful for the extra time the game has gotten, while others are a little disappointed with the longer wait. Meanwhile, Domino’s Pizza has found the perfect time for some free advertising with a little spice.

In a Facebook post on their official page, Dominos Pizza re-posted Ubisoft’s press release about the month-long delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, adding the following afterword:

Domino’s Pizza saw a perfect opportunity to poke fun at the caliope of delays that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has suffered. The game was originally supposed to be released on all platforms in November 2024. After the outcry that was inherent to the game, as well as the unfortunate star wars outlaws, Ubisoft has decided to continue working on the game until the revised release date of Valentine’s Day 2025.

This week, the studio once again delayed the release date to March 20, 2025, citing the need for further polish. It seems that Ubisoft is indeed struggling with the urgency, compared to fans comparing Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches with Cyberpunk 2077 disaster.

In this light, Ubisoft’s response to Dominos Pizza is less of a clapback than a confirmation of a final release date:

“Hey Domino’s Pizza pizza party on march 20th????”

All the social media banter aside, the now further delayed launch is a watershed moment for Ubisoft’s very existence as a game development company. The once-AAA gaming giant has suffered significant losses over the past few quarters. Speculation of a complete liquidation is on the cards, likely meaning the company will at least undergo some corporate restructuring and cost-cutting to become profitable again.

In some ways, Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ delay may have done it more good than harm. The irony of the community’s initial outrage over Yasuke’s choice to lead the next adventure has died down since 2024. What’s more, the latest delay makes it stand out from the crowd. quite a busy February AAA stream major releases.

There are some positives for the remaining Assassin’s Creed fans. Ubisoft is making some smart moves to align fans, including Free DLC for pre-order holders.

While many of the game’s nuances remain to be verified post-release, here are some of the differences and similarities between Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Valhalla, Ubisoft’s last truly successful title in terms of sales.
