[Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Hogwarts Legacy.]
There are three possible endings to Hogwarts Legacy, and since there’s no in-game morality system, it won’t be based on any decisions made throughout the game. Even the darkest witches and wizards will have access to the good ending, while those who are morally sound will also have access to the evil ending. As such, you should feel free to approach character conversations, side quest choices, or even ask for more money after quests if you please – because only one decision ultimately dictates all Hogwarts Legacy endings.
Hogwarts Legacy’s Good Ending Explained
Seal Away The Ancient Magic

Both the good and evil endings in Hogwarts Legacy take place below the school, as you are racing to the Repository underneath Hogwarts – where the ancient magic is held – to get there before Ranrok can. You’re accompanied in this scene by Professor Fig and several other professors, attempting to fend off an incoming goblin invasion. However, while making your way to the Repository, you are eventually separated from everyone except for Fig. This is when the key choice will be made.
Professor Fig will tell you that, because of your power, you must assume the role of Keeper of the reservoir, and he inquires what you’ll do with the magic it holds. To get a good ending in Hogwarts Legacy, you must respond with “I intend to keep it contained here,” to which Fig will react positively. He’ll follow this up by asking you how long you intend to keep the ancient magic of Hogwarts Legacy a secret, to which you’ll need to reply with “I shall keep it secret forever.“
In Hogwarts Legacy‘s good ending, you will struggle alongside Professor Fig to contain the magic as the room crumbles around you. Eventually, you will succeed and seal away ancient magic for good.
After this exchange, you’ll reach the Repository and come face-to-face with Ranrok. Following a brief confrontation, the goblin will fully absorb the Repository’s power and transform into a dragon-like creature who serves as Hogwarts Legacy‘s final boss. The events after this fight are where the game’s endings begin to deviate. In Hogwarts Legacy‘s good ending, you will struggle alongside Professor Fig to contain the magic as the room crumbles around you. Eventually, you will succeed and seal away ancient magic for good.
Hogwarts Legacy’s Evil Ending Explained
Take The Ancient Magic For Yourself

If you instead opted for the Dark Wizard path, you may want to get the evil ending in Hogwarts Legacy. Luckily, doing so takes minimal effort, as all you need to do is give different, more ominous answers in your final conversations with Professor Fig.
When he asks what you intend to do with the ancient magic, you should say, “I intend to open it,” a response Fig will react to with concern. Following that, he will warn you against opening the Repository and give you one last chance to get a good ending if you respond with, “You’re right.” If you’re still set on getting Hogwarts Legacy‘s evil ending, then reply with “This power should not be kept from the world“ or “I want the power for myself.”
When choosing the latter two options, the biggest change from the good ending is that you will fight Ranrok on your own, making the fight a bit more challenging. You will then proceed to absorb the ancient magic power from the Repository. As you do so, your eyes will glow red, which has some sinister implications.
No matter what ending you receive, you cannot prevent Professor Fig’s death in Hogwarts Legacy. However, it will focus more on it during the good ending.
Unfortunately, taking advantage of the ancient magic this way doesn’t provide you with any new spells or powers. Likewise, the extent of your newfound ancient magic mastery isn’t explored whatsoever. Professor Fig doesn’t appear in Hogwarts Legacy‘s evil ending either, leaving the circumstances of his death an unexplained mystery.
Hogwarts Legacy’s True Ending Explained
Return To Hogwarts To Finish Up Some Remaining Quests

Regardless of which Hogwarts Legacy ending you choose, after the fight with Ranrok concludes, you will return to Hogwarts. In the Great Hall, Professor Black and Professor Weasley each say a few words honoring Professor Fig. Depending on whether you turned in Sebastian Sallow or not during his side quests, this will be followed by a conversation with either Sebastian or Ominis Gaunt, where you reveal that Victor Rookwood was responsible for cursing Anne.
The Weasley’s Watchful Eye quest entails a one-on-one final meeting with Professor Weasley and can be completed right away. However, The House Cup quest requires that you complete the previous quest and reach level 34 first.
If you’ve already explored most of the Highlands and found all the Field Guide Pages, you should be able to reach the level 34 threshold much more quickly. However, if you’re still short, you can increase levels by taking on enemies in the Battle Arenas or finding the Field Guide Pages you’re still missing. Side quests are another option, although this may take longer than just flying around and collecting the missing Field Guide Pages.
Hogwarts Legacy True Ending Requirements
Celebrate Your House Cup Victory

Hogwarts Legacy‘s true ending concludes with your House celebrating their victory and fireworks exploding across the screen. The true ending will be the same whether you choose the good or evil route. The professors will always lament Fig’s death, and your House always wins the House Cup. Even the evil route will ultimately lead to this bittersweet but overall happy ending, with no real tease regarding a sequel.
In the end, there are only two endings in Hogwarts Legacy that truly change the story. The good ending sees Professor Fig, and your character lock away ancient magic forever, whereas the evil ending sees you siphon the power for yourself. Neither of these outcomes are explored further, but since Hogwarts Legacy looks like a trilogy, they could likely be expanded upon in a sequel.
The true ending is considered canon in the scope of the RPG, and it provides the most closure – but at the end of the day, it’s up to you to decide between all of Hogwarts Legacy‘s endings.
