Cyberpunk 2077 players are only just learning Johnny Silverhand's real name

There is no denying that Cyberpunk 2077 fans have some of the best eyes in the gaming sphere and that is why one player has stumbled across an interesting tidbit of information surrounding our favourite rocker boy.

Throughout the events of Cyberpunk 2077, V will regularly head to the past via a series of flashbacks that are both her own and Johnny Silverhand’s, the construct that lives in her head.

Played by Keanu Reeves, Johnny is one of the most iconic characters in gaming as the previous rocker boy and Arasaka terrorist who now lives in our main character’s head thanks to a small microchip.

As a result, he is with us throughout the events of Cyberpunk 2077, whether we like it or not.

However, there is a lot we still never get to learn about Silverhand.

Now thanks to one eagle-eyed fan, we know what his real name is thanks to an easily-missed document found in a flashback scene.

Found on a screen in the back of the Ripperdoc room during the flashback with Alt Cunningham, players can see a document with some extra information about Johnny which includes his birth place (College Station, TX), his date of birth (1989), and his full name.

Robert John Linder.

With this document being hard to find, it seems as though many fans missed it and took to the comments to share their surprise over Silverhand’s very normal real name.

“Robert John Linder sounds like a serial killer name,” SmilingVamp wrote, with another user pointing out that he was kind of one so that checks out.

BlackBangs added, “I feel dumb.. until now, the idea that ‘Johnny Silverhand’ may not be his real name never crossed my mind at all. I cannot imagine him being a random guy called Robert, with two organic arms, serving in the military back in the days, rather than playing on stages/exploding buildings.”

However, according to user Ninjakee13, Silverhand does in fact share his name with V during a scene in Phantom Liberty.

“He also tells you his name by the memorial tree in Phantom Liberty (I am pretty sure it’s there). He says something to the effect of, ‘Robert John Linder died in the war and Johnny Silverhand was born’… been a second since I played, I’m overdue for a new run haha.”
