Like Henry, you can equip your horse with multiple pieces of gear that have their own ecosystem of stats and trade-offs that can make a trip to the saddler more complicated than expected. Luckily, only a handful of horse gear can be considered the best in KCD2, and can reward players who are looking for a fight or an effective travel companion.

Saddles are ideal items to vastly boost your horse’s carrying capacity, giving you more room to store all of your crafting items and loot without forcing you to hobble to the next town. The best saddles for this are the Cracowain and Dragon saddles, which both have identical stats and only differ in style and taste.
While giving you the greatest boost to carrying capacity at +200, it also, unfortunately, has the highest reduction in horse speed, canceling out the best horseshoe’s speed buff. Although every saddle has slightly different speed debuffs, the extra weight capacity might not be worth it.

While most saddles have only slight differences in their stats, slowly upgrading as you visit saddlers in new regions, you can min/max these stats to get the most out of your playstyle. The Transylvanian Knight’s Saddle still gives you a +140 weight capacity to your horse’s inventory but only reduces your top speed by 3.5.
This makes it the saddle with the lowest speed debuff while still granting over 100 extra carry weight. This is a strong balance between making sure you can still access the fastest stats of your horse while not losing the value of having a mobile chest.

The headpiece of the horse has two different variants that prioritize either combat-focused gameplay or using your horse for travel and storage. The Dragon Chanfron is the best for horse combat, giving your horse the best protection and courage.
Other than having the strongest armor and courage stats among other chanfrons, the Dragon Chanfron has the lowest weight, making it the best armor piece for your horse with zero trade-offs other than affordability. However, a chanfron does have certain disadvantages compared to bridles.

Bridles, compared to chanfrons, prioritize bonuses to speed and stamina at the cost of having any armor protection or increase to your horse’s courage. The Tournament Bridle, like the Dragon Chanfron, is the highest in its class and grants the largest increase in stamina and speed.
Also, like the Dragon Chanfron, it has the lowest weight of all bridles, making it have no downsides other than scrounging up enough groschen to afford it. You can purchase it from the saddler in Kuttenberg, along with almost every other piece of horse gear.

The harness and caparison pieces of horse gear have more variants and trade-offs compared to other pieces of horse gear, allowing you to mix and match to fit your playstyle. However, the Quilted Caparison with Harness offers a strong mix of bonuses while managing its debuffs.
The Warhorse Caparison has the best torsos stats but was only available as a Twitch drop, which is no longer available.

Caparison and harnesses are hard to determine which is the best fit, as most have more debuffs than buffs, making you have to decide what you want to prioritize. Luckily, the Executioner’s Caparison with Harness has the smallest number of debuffs and is useful for almost any build.
While not the highest, it still has respectable armor stats and ties for the highest courage bonus among other torso pieces. It also has no reduction in speed or stamina but does have a high reduction in carrying weight, which requires a good saddle to counteract.

There are only five horseshoes in the game, and each one improves upon the last until you reach the best one in the game. This belongs to the Racing Horseshoe, which gives the highest increase in speed while keeping the same weight and armor stats compared to other horseshoes.
This is the only piece of gear you can craft yourself, making it relatively cheap if you can find the sketch and materials. You likely won’t get these horseshoes until you reach the Kuttenberg region, and you can find the sketch on a table in the horse stables in the southwest corner of the city.
