If you’re a fan of the Disney+ Star Wars show The Acolyte but this is your first time on the internet in the past few months, then apologies in advance for being the bearer of bad news because that show is never getting a second season.
It’s no secret that the series was a bit hit or miss with the fan base, but, as it turns out, Disney actually considers the show to be a bit of a success… just not enough of a success.
In a recent interview with Vulture’s Josef Adalian, Disney Entertainment’s co-chairman Alan Bergman revealed why they chose not to renew the series for a second season.
“So as it relates to Acolyte, we were happy with our performance,” Alan Bergman told Vulture, “but it wasn’t where we needed it to be given the cost structure of that title, quite frankly, to go and make a season two. So that’s the reason why we didn’t do that.”
On the plus side, Bergman did offer a relatively positive outlook on Disney’s current Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew.
“Skeleton Crew is in process now, so we’ll see. We’ve seen some growth on that. We’ll see how that goes. As you said, the reviews have been excellent on Skeleton Crew, so we’ll have to see how that all plays out as it moves forward.”
Bergman also told Vulture that the future of Star Wars is looking pretty bright too, especially in regards to the upcoming season 2 of Andor.
“In terms of what’s coming up, we have Andor season two, which we’re really excited about. It is excellent. I’ve watched all the episodes, and it is a fantastic season. And then we have Ahsoka season two, which Dave Filoni is leading…”
Hopefully this means that Disney has its ballooning budgetary issues under control, because the Star Wars fanbase won’t stick around for much longer if every show they get invested in ends up being cancelled.
Here’s hoping Andor really is as good as they’re implying too…
