Despite Netflix removing Hannah Baker’s controversial scene in 13 Reasons Why, fans who have witnessed it in 2017 are still traumatized by her s**cide.
It’s been eight years since Netflix released 13 Reasons Why, the series that nearly traumatized its viewers due to scenes depicting s*icide, violence, and the like. Who would ever forget the bathtub scene where Hannah Baker took her own life? Or that broomstick scene in Season 2 that almost turned our stomachs upside down?
There were so many triggering moments in this show that even years after it aired on the streaming platform, the memory of them still gives us shivers. Because of the backlash, Netflix and a voluntary health organization have agreed to edit and remove one controversial scene.

Netflix removed Hannah Baker’s s**cide scene in 13 Reasons Why
Fans first heard Katherine Langford’s Hannah Baker’s story in 13 Reasons Why back on March 31, 2017, in a series of tapes she recorded before she took her own life. Through these tapes, she detailed the reasons why she chose to die by s**cide.
Her best friend, Dylan Minnette’s Clay Jensen, would have to listen to these tape recordings to find out the people on the list—and if he was one of them.
In the final episode of Season 1, viewers witnessed Hannah take her own life, which was portrayed in a very explicit manner, showing her taking a razor and slitting her wrists. Later on, she was found lifeless in the tub by her mother.

The long, grueling scene left a lasting impact on the audience. Now, two years after the original premiere and ahead of Season 3’s release, the scene was cut for good. It only showed Hannah looking at the mirror before transitioning to her parents’ reaction.
In a statement, Netflix revealed it had omitted the scene (via The Hollywood Reporter):
On the advice of medical experts, including Dr. Christine Moutier, chief medical officer at the American Foundation for S**cide Prevention, we’ve decided with creator Brian Yorkey and the producers to edit the scene in which Hannah takes her own life from season one.
The decision was supported by mental health advocates and organizations. The show ran for four seasons from 2017 to 2020. It received mixed reviews from both critics and fans, and it was also allegedly associated with the significant increase in s**cide rates in the US.
