Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will finally reunite players with Henry of Skalitz after seven years, and there’s one part of his story that definitely needs to return. The much-anticipated sequel has a lot on its plate, improving the first-person historical RPG’s combat with exciting new weapons and vastly expanding the scope with a significantly larger world to explore. Even when juggling all of that, however, failing to deliver on some narrative payoffs would be a huge mistake.

The story of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 picks up right from where the first game ended, with Henry now deeply involved in the war spreading through 15th-century Bohemia. Henry goes through a lot in the first game, almost dying after his home in Skalitz is attacked, and becoming a vital part of the resistance against Sigismund’s mercenary armies. Because so much happens to Henry in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, some of his storylines take a back seat, and these should be given more focus in the sequel.

Henry’s Father Is A Huge Part Of His Story

Martin’s Death Drives The Plot In The First Game

Players first meet Henry as the son of a Blacksmith in Skalitz, a large village in the countryside of what is now The Czech Republic. Henry has to complete some tasks for his father, Martin, who is forging a special sword for their liege-lord, Sir Radzig Kobyla. Henry and Martin forge the sword together, and Martin gives Henry some words of wisdom about seeking adventure and the brutality of war. Before they can give the sword to Radzig, Skalitz is attacked by a mercenary army, Henry’s parents are killed, the sword is taken, and Henry almost dies.

Once Henry recovers from the attack, he embarks on a journey to recover the sword and avenge his parents. All of Henry’s actions are driven by this desire to recover his father’s sword and avenge his death, and his motivations become even greater once he discovers that Martin isn’t his real father, Sir Radzig is. Henry and Sir Radzig don’t get to talk about this much, as some of Kingdom Come: Deliverance‘s biggest battles soon follow and Radzig gets captured near the end.

Henry’s Real Father Needs To Give Him Some Answers

Henry and Sir Radzig get another brief moment to talk about their relationship at the end of the game. Sir Radzig explains that he had a relationship with Henry’s mother, but because she was a commoner he could never marry her. Before Henry was born, she met Martin, who agreed to raise Henry and keep his real parentage a secret. Henry probably has many more questions, and will also want to spend more time with his real father, especially as one of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2’s DLCs will focus on the relationship with his adoptive father.

The sequel needs to have opportunities for Henry and Sir Radzig to bond, either by talking together, going hunting, or even fighting side-by-side in battle. This might be tricky for the game to do, as Henry and Hans are already being sent away from the people they’ve been fighting with.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will have to balance the importance of Henry’s troubled past with the historical events it uses to drive the story.

The game does have history on its side, as in 1403, Wenceslaus IV escaped prison to Kuttenberg. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 takes place in 1403, so it makes sense that Radzig would also ride to Kuttenberg to support his friend in ending the rebellion against him. This would be a great opportunity for Henry and Radzig to meet once more for some answers.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Could Easily Lose The Focus

Kuttenberg Will Be A Huge Change From Skalitz And Rattay

Kingdom Come: Deliverance ends with Henry and Hans Capon leaving for Trosky Castle to hand Lord Otto Von Bergow a letter to see if he will continue to support Sigismund’s invasion of Bohemia. From the trailers, it looks like this doesn’t go well, and Henry will have to rebuild himself with new weapons, armor, and skills that can be used to defeat the stronger enemies he will face. Henry will also end up in Kuttenberg, roughly 19 miles from Rattay, which is larger than any place Henry has seen before.

Because Henry ends up far away from Rattay, he will likely be cut off from Sir Radzig and Sir Hanush for a long time. That could create a similar situation to the first game, where the conflict in Bohemia pulls the focus away from Henry’s personal story, his relationship with Sir Radzig, and his mission to reclaim the sword. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will have to balance the importance of Henry’s troubled past with the historical events it uses to drive the story, and Henry’s relationship with his fathers and his desire for vengeance needs to be at the center.
