🎬 Kristen Stewart’s forgotten Jumanji spinoff is coming to Netflix NEXT MONTH! 😱
Did you know Kristen Stewart was part of a Jumanji spinoff that’s been forgotten over the years? 😯 Well, it’s finally making its way to Netflix next month—and fans are buzzing!
This 20-year-old film flew under the radar, but now it’s getting a second chance to shine. 🧐
In 2005, Kristen Stewart starred in a sci-fi adventure film that viewers may not have realized was a spinoff of the Robin Williams-led Jumanji. Now, 20 years later, that spinoff, Zathura: A Space Adventure, is heading to Netflix.
On July 1, Zathura will be added to Netflix’s film library. Three years before Iron Man, Jon Favreau directed Zathura, which was an adaptation of the 2002 children’s book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg, the author behind Jumanji. Like the 1995 movie, Zathura centers around a mysterious board game that causes nothing but trouble for those who choose to play it. In Zathura, those players are squabbling brothers Walter and Danny, played respectively by Josh Hutcherson and Jonah Bobo, who, upon starting the game, find that their house has been transported into outer space. In order to return to Earth, the brothers will need to survive and finish the game. Stewart co-stars in Zathura as Walter and Danny’s older sister Lisa.

I love the idea of the board game sucking you in.
Zathura Put the Jumanji Franchise on Ice for a Decade
Despite receiving better reviews from critics than Jumanji did (75% versus 52% on Rotten Tomatoes), Zathura was a box-office flop, just barely making more than its $65 million budget during its theatrical run. The movie’s poor commercial reception led to the franchise being put on ice until the mid-2010s, when Sony began developing a legacy sequel to the original Jumanji. Starring Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle flipped the script on the original movie, sending its players into the jungle instead of bringing the jungle to the real world.
Zathura: A Space Adventure arrives on Netflix on July 1.
