It seems like Ubisoft is determined to give fans the most immersive Assassin’s Creed game to date but for now, the game’s controversies are overshadowing the developers’ efforts. The primary focus is one of the game’s protagonists, Yasuke, as Ubisoft has been criticized for its decision to include a Black samurai protagonist instead of an indigenous Japanese one.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows could be the most immersive game in the Assassin’s Creed series

Ubisoft has used an updated Anvil engine to develop Assassin’s Creed Shadows to give players the most immersive, realistic open-world experience. The studio recently answered some questions, revealing the brand-new features that make Assassin’s Creed Shadows so special. Ubisoft revealed (via wccftech) that the game will feature dynamic weather and seasons, something that has been around for quite some time now. However, the changing weather will also affect the gameplay.

The game will offer players different ways to complete a certain mission, however, different weathers will unlock different opportunities. For example, if it is raining, the sound will cover players’ footsteps. Not only that, the rain will also affect enemy patrols, as some enemies will seek shelter.

As for seasons, it can have some greater effects. Some bushes/vegetation will disappear in the winter season so players cannot use them to hide. Snow will slow down Naoe, but not Yasuke, plus during the winter season, icicles can fall from roofs, creating noise distractions that enemies will react to. This makes the entire experience much more realistic and immersive, plus it also encourages players to explore all the different ways to complete a mission.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows controversies have damaged its reputation

When Ubisoft first revealed the game’s trailer, there was a lot of criticism as many couldn’t digest the fact that Ubisoft decided to feature a Black samurai in the game. Many claimed that the studio should’ve picked an indigenous Japanese samurai instead, however, the studio has continued to defend its decision. Apart from Yasuke, gamers could also explore 16th-century Japan through the eyes of the second protagonist: Naoe.

The protagonist choice will also affect the gameplay as the game’s director has confirmed that there will be some situations where one protagonist will be more powerful than the other. This proves that Naoe could make the most out of rainy weather as her combat style focuses more on stealth.

After getting delayed twice, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is all set to release for PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox Series X/S, macOS, and iPadOS on March 20th, 2025.
