Avalanche Software is definitely holding its cards close to its chest.
Last year, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that a Hogwarts Legacy Director’s Cut was in development, adding that developers had been drafted in to help from Rocksteady following the failure of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.
As for what that Director’s Cut might entail, well, that’s currently unknown.
I’d assume it would seek to restore things like the companion system, which dataminers previously uncovered was once planned for the game.
Personally, I’d love for it to introduce a new location for us to explore via a post-game DLC, perhaps the Ministry of Magic or Diagon Alley.
At the present moment though, the Director’s Cut hasn’t been officially confirmed by Warner Bros. or Avalanche.
Could it be announced to celebrate Hogwarts Legacy’s second anniversary?
Possibly. That falls on 10 February, so there’s just a few weeks to go.
I’ve made my wishes clear but one thing fans are hoping to see is the addition of multiplayer and while that feels like a slightly tall order, I can certainly see the vision.
Reddit user AdLow6020 kicked off the discussion, writing, “So with all the hype for the DLC expansion, can we please just get more spells and an online multiplayer option when I don’t feel like following the main story?”
They suggested that might include “inviting friends to each other’s Room of Requirement, group side quests with friends or matchmaking with others online, dueling club, Quidditch, Gobstones, Summoners Court, [and] wizard chess.”
Not everyone is so convinced though.
“It sounds nice in theory but I hope HL stays single player with possibly online matchmaking, but not for missions,” countered ToastedWolf85.
“Online is going to bring more bugs. Making the whole game co-op sounds good in theory but leave it to companies/developers that have experience in that field or at least fix their bugs.”
I’m in the camp of preferring devs to drop additional single-player content but I suppose we’ll have to sit tight and see what the future holds.
