Reddit users noticed over the weekend that the PlayStation website page for Ghost of Yōtei was updated. As the page describes, the game takes place 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima and follows Atsu “filled with fury and determination” as she hunts down those responsible for her family’s death. The website also adds that “Every odd job and bounty” taken in the game “will provide the coin she needs for her journey,” and “how she fights, survives, and evolves the legend of the Ghost” is up to the player.
Ghost Of Yōtei Follows Atsu Hunting Down Her Family’s Killers
A Personal Revenge Story

Moving on from the island of Tsushima in the first game, Ghost of Yōtei will take players to the lands surrounding Mount Yōtei in northern Japan in 1603. The land was not under Japanese rule in 1603, creating a wild land full of danger. How the historical setting will play into Atsu’s mission remains to be seen, but now that it’s been confirmed to be a personal revenge story, the game’s setting and story details may be even more enticing for players.
With Assassin’s Creed Shadows Succeeding, Ghost Of Yōtei Has Even Higher Expectations
Can Ghost Of Yōtei Live Up To Its Predecessor?

There have been a lot of games set in Feudal Japan since the massive success of Ghost of Tsushima back in 2020, and that game might have paved the way for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, especially since franchise fans had long requested that setting. Now that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been a big sales success, all eyes appear to be gazing towards Ghost of Yōtei and the monumental expectations the game now has.
Ghost of Tsushima was one of the most beloved games on the PS4, so a sequel was always going to have a lot to live up to. But with another well-received Feudal Japan-set game already out this year, the comparisons will be almost inevitable. No matter how similar or different Ghost of Yōtei ends up being from Assassin’s Creed Shadows, it’s clear there is a demand for games with this historical setting. With a release window of sometime in 2025, we won’t have long to wait to find out if Ghost of Yōtei stands tall with its competition.
