Coronation Street fans have been left stunned after realising Bernie Winter actor Jane Hazlegrove has a famous soap star wife – and it’s safe to say they’re both familiar faces

Coronation Street fans have been taken aback upon discovering that Jane Hazlegrove, who portrays Bernie Winter, is married to a renowned soap actress.

Jane made her debut on the ITV soap in 2019, stepping onto the cobbles as the estranged mother of Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Paul (Peter Ash), quickly becoming a beloved character among viewers.

Bernie has been at the centre of numerous significant storylines over time. In 2023, Paul was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), and tragically passed away in September 2024, with Bernie by his side in heart-wrenching scenes.

Adding to the drama, Bernie was taken aback when her long-lost son Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) showed up last year. Bernie’s romantic escapades, particularly her popular relationship with Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin), have also been a hot topic among fans.

Before joining Corrie, Jane had roles in Silent Witness, The Bill, and Doctors. She also portrayed Kathleen ‘Dixie’ Dixon in BBC’s Casualty from 2006 to 2016. However, fans have recently been astounded to learn about her famous spouse, reports Leicestershire Live.

Off-screen, Jane is happily married to her adoring soap star wife, Isobel Middleton. The couple tied the knot in 2015 and have been together for over 28 years. Isobel, also an actress, is no stranger to the small screen.

She has played three characters in Emmerdale over the years. She first appeared as Dr Lane in 2014, then as a barrister during Simon McManus’ 2018 trial, and most recently, she portrayed Jean Rawson on the soap in 2020.

Isobel Steele’s acting resume extends well beyond Emmerdale. In 2002, she graced the set of BBC’s EastEnders as Sadie Banks and made her way onto the silver screen with a role in 2009’s Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

She didn’t stop there; in 2022, Isobel jumped into another iconic soap, Coronation Street, playing a feminist author named Persephone Braxton, who held a book launch at the much-loved Roy’s Rolls.

However, it’s not just her varied career that’s catching fans off guard – many were surprised to learn that she’s married to fellow actress Jane Hazlegrove, known for her role as Bernie in Coronation Street. A snapshot of the couple was shared on a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, where one admirer captioned: “Picture of Jane Hazlegrove (Bernie from Corrie) with real-life wife, Isobel.”

Curiosity stirred in the comment section where one person remarked, “I recognise Isobel… she’s an actress too?” Another fan clarified, mentioning her prior roles: “She was in Mr. Bates and Emmerdale,” which led another fan to exclaim, “I thought I recognised her! ” The expressions of admiration continued, with a fifth fan commenting, “How incredible! What a lovely couple.”
