Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Actors Fire Back at Critics – Say Anyone Criticizing The Game “Aren’t Into Gaming”

Henry riding a horse in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2Despite a stellar start, which has seen the game propelled into the top ten most-played single-player titles ever on Steam, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has been mired in controversy.

Ahead of its release, it became embroiled in the ongoing culture war, with lead writer and game director Daniel Vávra coming under fire for including a single, optional scene that depicted gay romance. Thankfully, for Warhorse Studios, this didn’t affect pre-order numbers or its player count.

Now, fresh off of nine years in the studio working on the longest video game script ever, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 voice actors Tom McKay and Luke Dale have had their say on the issue, saying that people offended by the scene “care very much about politics, but they’re not necessarily into gaming.”

In an interview with the BBC, Dale calls the situation “quite an interesting thing”, adding that “there’s been something of a backlash this time around from the right-wing mentality.”

The pair think that those making the most noise about Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s gay romance scene are from “an unrepresentative minority” and the noise surrounding it is “a really good barometer of the distortion between online interaction and real-world interaction.”

Dale adds: “I think, to be honest with you, the people that are truly big fans of gaming and this game aren’t bothered about that sort of stuff.

They’ve just used this as a weapon, but they’re not necessarily into gaming.

“It seems to be people that are really politically involved, and they care very much about politics and not gaming, and they’ve just used this as a weapon, but they’re not necessarily into gaming.”

Both Dale and McKay think the scene is a complete non-issue, saying they did “nine hours, and it didn’t come up once,” but despite this, their comments are likely to stoke the flames once again.
