“The “Only One Tank” Epidemic”: Marvel Rivals Fans Find Themselves Begging For Tanks Once Again

It seems that Marvel Rivals fans are still struggling to find players who want to play the Vanguard role in competitive matches. Tanks, known as Vanguards in Rivals, are few and far between, and without a role queue, getting someone to swap to a tank is almost impossible sometimes.

A recent Reddit post from Dogbold is calling this an “only one tank” epidemic, as solo tanking appears to be the new meta, even though it isn’t the most effective tactic. While having one tank can be fine in some situations, especially if the enemy team has three support and one tank, having two tanks to create space and push the point is usually the best way to secure a win.

Finding A Vanguard Main Is The Real Challenge In Marvel Rivals

With The New Vanguard, Players Thought Finding A Tank Would Be Easier

With The Thing being added to the roster at the start of season 1.5, one would think that it would be easy to find players who want to play tank. The Thing is new and exciting and if we look at how fast players locked in Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic when they came out, you would think the same would happen with The Thing. Sadly, it did not.

Finding one player in Rivals that mains the Vanguard role is hard enough, let alone two tank mains, and it seems the original poster has had enough of this issue. The OP states, “Why do so few people want to play tank? Is there anything Netease can do about this? Because it’s bad.” Commenters agree with this statement entirely, chiming in to give their thoughts on the subject, including an answer to the OPs question.

Finding a tank player is difficult due to it almost certainly being the hardest role, according to the comments. User AWildNome comments, “Tank requires the most overall game knowledge and situational awareness.” Other commenters agree, stating that knowing when to push and when to back out is imperative as a Vanguard player, and most Marvel Rivals players don’t have an interest in the steep learning curve.

Our Take: Why Is No One Playing Tank In Marvel Rivals?

While Playing Vanguard Is Fun And Exciting, It Is Also Very Scary Sometimes

Hulk is too tough to fight alone in Marvel Rivals

Though I don’t mind playing the Vanguard role in Marvel Rivals here and there, I do think playing the role of a tank is a bit hectic sometimes. Non-stop barrages of attacks, knowing when to push in and when to back away, and having to trust your Strategist with your in-game life can be a lot to manage at once. “Tanking” in Rivals isn’t like other games, as you really do have to rely on support from other teammates to be successful.

With the steep learning curve, it’s easy to see why some might stray away from maining Vanguard heroes, but I will say a lot of the tanks are extremely fun to play and easy to learn. Thor is a powerhouse that can create massive amounts of space, Dr. Strange is unstoppable when he has a good Strategist to keep him alive if his shield gets broken, and Captain America can be an absolute pest to the enemy team’s healers if played right.

Hopefully, NetEase does consider adding a role queue down the line to help fix this Vanguard issue, but at the time of writing, it is still something that isn’t even on the devs’ radar. For now, if you haven’t tried to tank in Marvel Rivals, maybe give it a shot — you might just find your new favorite hero in the process.
