As Kate Middleton, the mom of three, announced that she is now cancer-free, the duo have decided to resume their public duties. According to royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith, the duo has begun gearing up for William’s eventual ascension to the throne.

Prince William and Kate Middleton have started preparing for the biggest roles of their lives — becoming king and queen of the United Kingdom. It is worth noting that the Prince an Princess of Wales faced a difficult year after Middleton was diagnosed with cancer.

The princess, after her diagnosis during a planned abdominal surgery in January, spent almost all her time behind closed doors while William spent more time at home.

As Kate Middleton, the mom of three, announced that she is now cancer-free, the duo have decided to resume their public duties.

According to royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith, the duo has begun gearing up for William’s eventual ascension to the throne.

“Although the king is carrying out his duties with typical determination, he has had to accept limitations during his cancer treatment,” Bedell Smith told People Magazine. “As a result William has been taking on more responsibilities, and he and Kate have been preparing for their future roles sooner than they would have expected.”

King Charles III also had to adjust his commitments following his cancer diagnosis, which led his eldest son to represent the monarch at various events. He recently appeared at the the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, which William attended sans Charles.

“There’s a sense of calm before the storm,” Bedell Smith told The People. “They are next in line for the biggest job of their lives, and of course, Kate’s health has taken priority, but it’s also allowed everyone to take a step back and figure out what’s important right now.”
