It’s a showdown between The Witcher’s Geralt of Rivia and Berserk’s Guts the Black Swordsman. Who wins? There’s a clear answer.
Anime and gaming fans are always pitting their favorite characters against each other in theoretical battles. And today, we’re looking at Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher versus Guts, the Black Swordsman from Berserk. And according to popular consensus, it wouldn’t even be close.
Both are iconic warriors, each with incredible skills, abilities, and experiences that shaped them into near-mythical figures. Yet, when it comes to a one-on-one showdown, it becomes increasingly clear that Guts would be the clear winner.
The Geralt vs Guts fight wouldn’t really be close

Geralt of Rivia is no ordinary man. As a Witcher, his body has been enhanced beyond human limitations through grueling trials and mutations. His strength is described as being equivalent to ten men, allowing him to defeat monstrous beasts and endure life-threatening injuries.
With his agility, reflexes, and superhuman senses, Geralt has successfully fought enemies faster, larger, and more cunning than most warriors could dream of facing. His magical signs, like Axii, can manipulate enemies’ minds, stunning them temporarily or even forcing them to fight alongside him. This males him one of the deadliest individuals in The Witcher universe.
However, Guts is far from average. Even before obtaining his iconic Berserker Armor, Guts’ strength, endurance, and pain tolerance are legendary. He wields the Dragonslayer, a massive slab of iron that requires impossible levels of physical power to swing, let alone use effectively in combat.
To put this into perspective, Geralt’s finely crafted Witcher swords wouldn’t dent Guts’ full plate armor, while one strike from the Dragonslayer would shatter his defenses entirely.
Guts will not get anymore special training since he trained like crazy his whole fucking life he is clearly the physically strongest human alive in BERSERK. Neither humans, nor even apostles stand a chance against him. But still, too weak to touch a god after all he’s only human- pic.twitter.com/XkOnZMWN9h

Geralt’s physical conditioning, though impressive, pales in comparison to Guts’ raw power. Guts has fought—and defeated—supernatural beings far beyond what Geralt typically faces, including demonic apostles who dwarf even the most terrifying monsters of The Witcher universe. His immense pain tolerance and ability to fight through grievous injuries make him unstoppable.
Even Axii wouldn’t help versus The Black Swordsman

When comparing the two, Geralt’s magical Axii sign is often brought up as a potential table-turner for him. Axii can hypnotize enemies, calm them, or even temporarily turn them into allies. But it has clear limitations.
Axii’s effects are temporary, can be broken with damage, and require precision. It works well against humans and lesser creatures, but whether it would be effective against someone with Guts’ mental fortitude is questionable.
Furthermore, if Guts entered his berserker state where his mind becomes consumed by pure rage it’s questionable whether there would even be a “mind” left to control. At best, Axii might offer Geralt a brief respite; at worst, it would prove entirely ineffective. Geralt is a brilliant tactician who uses his oils, bombs, and potions to turn battles in his favor but it may not be enough against someone like Guts.
In combat, Guts combines raw strength with cunning strategy, as seen when he devised a way to kill hordes of enemies by setting himself on fire. Geralt would need to fight flawlessly, using every trick in his arsenal while avoiding a single strike from the Dragonslayer. The odds of maintaining such perfection against a relentless warrior like Guts are slim to none.
