His trainer has revealed why Mahomes doesn’t need him to ‘look like a model’

PATRICK MAHOMES is arguably the NFL’s biggest star and one of the most talented athletes in all of sports.

But unlike a lot of the supremely shredded players around him, the Kansas City Chiefs star has something of a dad bod.

Pictures of Mahomes with his shirt off went viral earlier this season with the three-time Super Bowl winner mocked over his physique.

But his lack of abs, muscle definition and slight paunch are there by DESIGN.

In October, Mahomes was interviewed by quarterback GOAT Tom Brady and said his build is totally “for a reason”.

Magomes said: “I use those hips and that oblique muscle to really rotate through there.

“The people who have seen the dad bod, that’s for a reason — that’s the obliques. I’m getting them right.”

Brady, who famously stuck to his own personal plan, agreed and joked: “We’ve got to keep a little padding there.

“We’re getting hit all the time, they don’t understand that we can’t look like those receivers all the time.”

Mahomes’ Texas-based trainer Bobby Stroupe went one further and really outlined why Mahomes doesn’t have – or really need – a six-pack.

Stroupe and Mahomes have been working together since the star was aged nine and 20 years later are sticking to their own formula.

Stroupe, who is founder and president of the Athlete Performance Enhancement Center, told People magazine: “As far as our approach, I call it the cake system because — I’m really corny — but basically there’s eight layers to this.

“There’s eight different things that we focus on: movement literacy, force absorption, force transmission, pattern stability, tissue resiliency, mobility, stability and flexibility.”

Some days during the off-season they train for over four hours, but other sessions last 90 minutes – depending on Mahomes’ schedule and family life.

Patrick Mahomes earns over $50 million per season from his Kansas City Chiefs contract.

But the superstar quarterback also cashes in on his brand off the field.

Mahomes has a reported net worth of $70 million.

And that’s in no small part down to some of the brand he endorses.

The Chiefs star is the face of Adidas in the United States and appears in State Farm commercials.

He also pops up on adverts for Subway and Head and Shoulders.

Mahomes also became the face of energy drink Prime, which is owned by Logan Paul and KSI.

During the season, the day after the game is their biggest concern, with around three hours of massage and mobility work to ensure all his muscles and bones are in top condition.

As for the dad bod, Stroupe believes the dad bod is highly beneficial.

He said: “I’ll be the first to tell you that I think an NFL quarterback should have at least 14% body fat.

“It’s not from an unhealthy standpoint, but from a force absorption standpoint. You have to be able to take contact.

“We know there’s just not a lot of quarterbacks in the Hall of Fame that have a six-pack and there’s a reason for that.

“We’ve got to find that fine line of performance and health. And the aesthetic part is a different conversation.

“I don’t need him to look like a model because the way he chooses to play requires a certain type of physicality, and that physicality needs more body fat.

“That is a core belief that I do have for him.”

Mahomes’ told Men’s Journal in 2018 about his diet and eating habits, although it is not known how much they have changed in the last six years, especially with the quarterback now approaching his 30s.

At the time he was eating “four to five” smaller meals per day with a personal chef to watch his nutrition.

However, Mahomes is known to be a tomato ketchup addict and is said to put it on everything.

That even includes things you wouldn’t really associate it with, like mac and cheese.

He’s also a major snacker and in 2023, told GQ Sports: “I like to eat a lot of chips, candy, whatever it is — especially at nighttime.

“I always grab … a purple bag of Doritos, which I just got on. I used to be a Cool Ranch guy, but now I’m on the purple bag.”

He named Whataburger as his favourite fast food restaurant during an appearance on Jason and Travis Kelce’s New Heights Podcast.

Mahomes said: “Being a little kid that grew up in Texas [with] Whataburger being down the street and Mom’s like, ‘I’m at work, what are you going to do for food?’

“I had to go to Whataburger every other day and I fell in love with it.

“The burgers are world-class, and they actually have a variety of things that you can get.

“[They also have] the best ketchup I’ve ever eaten — and as a ketchup connoisseur, that’s a very high praise.”

He also likes a shot of pickle juice for muscle cramps and has an endorsement deal with his favorite beer, Coors Light – which he was seen chugging during an open-top bus tour during the Super Bowl parade.
