We’re still a fair few years away from seeing Fallout 5 as Bethesda is busy working away on The Elder Scrolls VI, which is first in line for the team.
Because it’s going to be a while, we’re going to forget about it and focus on Atomfall instead, which is due out in March.
Atomfall is another post-apocalyptic adventure, though this one is utterly British in its theme and locale.
Set in an alternate 1950s, the story takes place after the disaster at Windscale – the UK’s worst nuclear disaster on record.
Players will have to survive and battle to live some kind of life in the countryside, with a public who have turned to chaos and crime.
We’ll have to navigate underground bunkers, deal with military presences, and keep ourselves alive in an area that has been cut off from the outside world for years.
A recent YouTube video has showcased the game in more depth, and it has us excited.
The game has obvious inspirations from franchises such as Fallout and STALKER, but as this comes from Rebellion, it will be very British, and quite likely feature some humour and satire.
As Kate said in her Gamescom preview, “Atomfall is incredibly well-designed, using stereotypes to create an amusing sense of absurdity that just works so very well.”
It feels very odd to see the usually quaint and peaceful countryside torn apart by disaster and anarchy.
A mixture of stealth and action will ferry us along in this survival game, where anything and everything can be used to your advantage as you scavenge through the remains of the area.
There’s lots to love here, especially taking on crazed locals with a cricket bat.
Here’s hoping there are plenty of northern accents, some dry British sarcasm, and lots of nods to the culture of the UK.
