The God Of War series has gone through a lot of changes since the reboot, but one change that always bugs fans is Kratos’ appearance.

The original God Of War trilogy was a hack-and-slash masterpiece that saw an angry Kratos on a quest for vengeance, but things calmed down from God Of War (2018) onwards.

For starters, Kratos now has a son and more notably, a drastically different character design which is what we’re going to talk about today.

Fans have often noticed that aside from the different physique and bushy beard, Kratos’ tattoos are in partially different places, not notable enough for it to be off-putting but notable nonetheless.

Of course, those with tattoos may know that if your body type changes, the tattoo can become a tad warped as your skin stretches or shrinks but that’s not really what’s happening with Kratos. They’re just different.

In a Reddit thread discussing the change, many fans were quick to point out that his red tattoos have never really been consistent throughout any of the games. For instance, “It looked wider and a lot darker in Ascension”, remaked one fan.

Another user pointed out the biggest change was in God Of War 2, which saw the tattoo get “even wilder. The red took up his entire left pec.”

Again, these aren’t bad changes and some of them are just a byproduct of the games getting more realistic looking as graphics got better over the years.

Personally, I wasn’t a fan of Kratos’ rebooted design when I first laid eyes on it but since playing the two reboot games, I think this is probably my new favourite, and I love how he addresses who he once was in the God Of War Ragnarok: Valhalla DLC.
