Evelyn is a custom Dark Urge character who was originally created by user fromacrypt on TikTok. This creator used to release short edits of their modded characters, but Evelyn, otherwise referred to as “Eve”, grew to considerable popularity, to the point where videos containing her gained hundreds of thousands of views, and many are still searching for her name on Google. The user in question has a tutorial posted on his account for other people wanting to create Evelyn in their own campaigns, though unfortunately a lot of these mods aren’t very compatible with the game after the latest patches.

Evelyn is an elf, and is intended to be thirty years old – people love her for her dark aesthetic, with many comparing her to Shadowheart. She was initially introduced as a Sharran wizard, and her creator used mods to unlock the cut content for Shar worshipers. Later developments clarify that she is a necromancer wizard, but is also multiclassed into cleric.

She notably made a lot of people interested in BG3, and new players such as Reddit User nanaokii have found themselves confused that Evelyn is a fan-made character. It appears that her name is a relevant topic of conversation again despite the original creator no longer having the game installed, with users such as allycatgaming_ on TikTok describing the bizarre phenomenon of people assuming she’s from the base game. It’s amazing to see that there’s still so much support for BG3 content creators, though many are perplexed that it’s Evelyn specifically who blew up.

The main gripe that a lot of players have with Evelyn becoming so popular is the fact that she cannot be made in the base game. Her unique appearance is entirely due to cosmetic customization mods, and it frustrates certain members of the player base that other people are finding the game through something which isn’t actually part of it. Larian heavily encourages the use of mods in BG3, so even though modded characters may not accurately represent the base game, the creators and users of these add-ons are certainly a huge part of the community. The attention which players gave to Evelyn gives me hope that the same love can be shown towards the Tavs and Durges of other players, especially those new to the game. There are plenty of other lesser-known creators who deserve the same passion for their own stories.

The creativity of the playerbase is boundless, and it would be great to see more players hyping each other up in a similar fashion. There are so many more creative Tav designs and roleplay concepts within the BG3 fandom, and they shouldn’t be brushed off just because one character’s popularity got out of hand. Even if you weren’t a fan of Evelyn in particular, you should definitely give some support to other members of the Baldur’s Gate 3 community.
