GloRilla cares for the next generation in her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee, and surprised her alma mater, Melrose High School, with a $25,000 donation on Wednesday.

According to Fox 13, GloRilla’s gift was her way of giving back to her hometown.

“I always wished somebody could do that when I was younger,” GloRilla said. “So the fact that I have the ability to do it now, it warms my heart.”

Students gathered in the gymnasium for a surprise performance by the Glorious artist, with many rapping along to her hit single, “Yeah Glo!”

Principal Kristopher Davis said the library will be renamed Gloria H. Woods Media Center to honor GloRilla’s contributions.

“We want to upgrade our system so students can be more interactive, so they can research and take their learning to the next level,” Davis said.

He sent a letter before the superstar’s appearance to let her know where and how her donation would be used:

– The funds will be used to purchase flexible, comfortable seating as well as allergen-free carpet and decorations for meeting areas for students.

– $5,000 will be invested in updated learning software for library computers.

– Glo Bucks, a student incentive program, will be supported with $5,000.00. The program will reward students for grades, attendance, and behavior improvement every nine weeks.

– $5,000 will be allocated to the GloRilla Mentorship Program. A variety of programs and field trips will be available to Melrose High School students to enhance their learning and overall wellness. Students who participate in this program will have checkpoints that must be achieved

– $2,500 will be used to purchase materials to support the Melrose Clothes Closet, providing necessities for those in need.

– $2,500 will be used within our Office of Family Engagement to develop programs and initiatives that support Melrose students and families in the area.
