Finally, after weeks of waiting, Ubisoft has released a brand new update for Assassin’s Creed Origins – which thankfully means that the title is once again playable on PC.
Thank you in advance to John Papadopoulos over on Dark Side of Gaming for the source on this one!
2025 didn’t get off to a great start for the Assassin’s Creed franchise, as two of its most recent entries (Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla) were rendered completely unplayable on PC.
This was due to the introduction of a new Windows 11 update, named 24H2 – which is to say that it wasn’t actually Ubisoft’s fault.
The 24H2 update caused a whole slew of incompatibilities, system bugs and even a few software vulnerabilities in certain Windows programs.
Depending on who you ask though, it also caused something much, much worse: certain games were rendered essentially unplayable.
A lot of games were supposedly affected by the update, including the likes of Path of Exile 2 and Cyberpunk 2077. However, Assassin’s Creed Origins was one of the few titles that the 24H2 update hit the hardest.
This resulted in the game becoming “unresponsive while starting, loading or during active gameplay” according to a Ubisoft rep, with other commenters on Steam noting that the title would simply display a black screen upon booting.
Unfortunately for Ubisoft, this resulted in the game getting review bombed on Steam – earning it a “Mixed” score with only 61% of its reviews being positive over the last 30 days.
Now it’s a little too soon to say for certain if the patch has completely fixed the issues, as it literally just went live, but all of the reviews on Steam in the last 24 hours seem to be unanimously positive.
Here’s hoping they can earn that positive review score back, provided everything is completely fixed.
