The Skyrim Unreal Engine 5 remake has just got a new update, bringing with it a thousand new textures and optimisations.

Skyrim has had so many ports and re-releases by Bethesda over the years. It’s basically become a meme that you can now play Skyrim on as many devices as possible. We’re even awaiting an alleged remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion too, which insiders claim is on track to release this year.

Still, that isn’t stopping fans from even porting Skyrim into a new engine, as the Unreal Engine 5 remake has shown.

Developed by Greg Coulthard, the project aims to remake Skyrim and bring it from the Creation Engine into Unreal Engine 5.

The project has been in development for quite some time, with Coulthard continually tweaking and improving it to bring Skyrim up to the standards of a modern release.

The latest update to the Unreal Engine 5 remake brings over a thousand new textures across the land of Skyrim.

Visually speaking, it looks very impressive. Take a look for yourself in the video below.

The video shows off some memorable areas of Skyrim, including Helgen, Solitude, and and the woodland areas surrounding Riverwood.

If you were hoping to see a little bit more action, you’re out of luck. For the time being, the Skyrim Unreal Engine 5 remake is more of a tech demo.

There’s no real gameplay besides being able to walk around the beautiful world. So, don’t go expecting to be able to complete quests and slay dragons quite yet.

Maybe that’ll change at some point though. Remaking a game’s art in another engine is one thing, but also porting AI, quests, and other gameplay mechanics is a whole different story.
