The emotional episode brought out the best in the cast as “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be” produced some of The Walking Dead‘s best performances. One of the stand-out performers was Lauren Cohan, who played the role of a devastated wife witnessing her husband get murdered to perfection. From here, Maggie’s goal became all about getting justice for Glenn, something she was denied when Rick chose to imprison the Saviors’ leader instead. Interestingly, Maggie and Negan’s Walking Dead spinoff has continued developing the duo’s complicated relationship, and season 2’s trailer looks to have shown Glenn the ultimate disrespect.
Maggie Using Lucille In The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 Is An Insult To Glenn’s Memory
Even Contemplating Using Such A Weapon Feels Out Of Character For Maggie

Many fans have feared a potential Maggie and Negan romance storyline in Dead City season 2, and while the show thankfully doesn’t appear to be heading in that direction, Maggie has seemingly embraced her husband’s killer in an equally insulting way. The latest trailer for The Walking Dead‘s next chapter saw Maggie wielding a baseball bat covered in barbed wire, the same weapon Negan used to kill Glenn. Allowing Negan to integrate into the main group in season 10 did feel like a blow to Glenn’s memory and something Maggie rightfully challenged, but it was at least understandable.
Having changed his ways and helped save several key characters, Negan arguably deserved a second chance, but Maggie remained his biggest critic for years. The two were then forced to work together throughout season 11 and Dead City season 1, giving them a reluctant alliance. While Maggie never truly let go of her grudge towards Negan, it seems like not only will the duo put the past behind them, but Maggie may become just like the man she spent years of her life resenting thanks to the trailer’s teased scene.
Season 2’s trailer ending with Maggie dragging a bat across the ground and lifting it undoubtedly holds some significance. It’s unclear who she was looking at or what her true intentions were, but even considering using this Lucille replacement as a weapon feels like an insult to Glenn. Although he would want his wife to move on and overcome her trauma, Glenn wouldn’t want to see Maggie wield an identical weapon to the one that got him killed, and while having her embrace this darker side is interesting from a narrative perspective, it feels disrespectful to Glenn’s final moments.
Maggie Using Lucille Could Finally Let Her Move On From Negan Killing Glenn
Maggie & Negan’s Feud Needs Some Kind Of Definitive End

If Maggie does actually go through with using Lucille, it’s bound to be a polarizing scene, but it may be pivotal in helping her move on from Glenn’s death. Despite her deep-rooted hatred for Negan, Maggie has tried genuinely hard to move past what happened, especially with the duo living in different communities. Still, their journeys have continued bringing them together, but Dead City season 2 could end Maggie and Negan’s feud by having them finally put their differences aside, which may be more likely to happen if Maggie opts to use the bat for violent reasons.
Ultimately, whether it’s a human or a walker, killing someone with Lucille will likely bring back bad memories for Maggie, but it may be what she needs to overcome her resentment.
As The Walking Dead season 11 highlighted, Maggie may never fully get over what Negan did to Glenn, but using this grizzly weapon herself could allow her to connect with her long-time nemesis and move on once and for all.
Why Maggie Could Be Holding Lucille In The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2
It Could Be Part Of An Elaborate Plan Or Maggie Finally Giving In To Her Darker Urges

Although Dead City season 2’s trailer showed Maggie holding Lucille, there’s no explanation as to why she’s preparing to use it. The most obvious would be her going down a dark path, potentially picking up the baseball bat while infiltrating New York and using it to finish off a villain. It would be a sinister fate given everything she’s been through, but Maggie has shown some violent tendencies in the past, and given the Croat and the Dama kidnapped her son in season 1, she might be overcome with rage.
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 will premiere on May 4th, 2025.
Using the bat to prove herself could be an interesting scene that really tests her mentality, proving why she is one of The Walking Dead‘s strongest survivors. Lastly, she may have gotten hold of the bat after fighting with Negan. While it’s unlikely either character dies in the spinoff, their tension may reach a boiling point, with Maggie getting the upper hand and looking down at her rival while holding his signature weapon. Whatever the reason, Maggie wielding Lucille is bound to be one of season 2’s most memorable scenes, and I can’t wait to see how it plays out.
