The legendary director behind acclaimed, classic titles such as Resident Evil 2, Ōkami, Bayonetta and Viewtiful Joe has a message for all of the sad, hate-filled losers who are obsessed with generating fake Assassin’s Creed Shadows controversies: “normal people” don’t care.

Ever since Ubisoft first revealed Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ protagonist Yasuke, a bunch of alt-right, whiny virgins have made it their mission to force (and create) controversy for the game.

Look, we all know what happened here. We’re not stupid. They saw a black fella in a video game and decided to invent a reason to get mad about that.

Well, good job losers, because the game is selling like hotcakes. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is currently the fifth top seller on Steam, it’s Ubisoft’s “best-ever Day 1 launch on the PlayStation digital store”, and it’s the top-selling game in the United Kingdom this year.

Ooooh, you really showed them. Congrats on spending over a year promoting the game for them, idiots.

If you’re curious how this is possible, considering how dedicated the jobless dorks were in tirelessly posting about the game’s “controversies” on Twitter, one of the gaming industry’s most illustrious directors, Hideki Kamiya, has a pretty straightforward answer for you; it’s because normal folks don’t waste their time doomscrolling through racist nonsense online.

“This isn’t limited to this case,” Hideki posted on Twitter (translated from Japanese), “but while there are a few super-intense people who make a big fuss saying, “I won’t tolerate that!”, the other majority of normal people who take an “it’s fine” stance are basically silent…”

“I wonder if there’s no way to make these “normal people” equally visible in everything…”

Personally, I’d argue these “normal” people have been reflected in Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ sales numbers, but in terms of why we heard more out of the angry crowd than the racist crowd leading up to the game’s release… well I think that’s simple.

Normal people are busy enjoying their lives. They’re working, they’re spending time with friends and family, and investing their time in the hobbies that bring them joy.

Inventing reasons to get mad at a video game because you’re a racist, pathetic little wastrel with more free time than sense is something uniquely specific to those who are lonely and devoid of a caring, loving support system.

You need your little hateful echo chambers, because they give you that sense of community you’re clearly lacking. I almost pity you.
