Disney has made the decision to pull an episode from the upcoming Pixar release, Win or Lose, due to a storyline on transgender identity.

The Hollywood Reporter learned the information about this and has received a response from Disney regarding the matter.

The episode was due to be part of Pixar’s latest creation for Disney+, following a co-ed middle school softball team.

Each episode would follow the team, dubbed the Pickles, and look at the kids’ lives off and on the field, taking in different points of view from players to teachers and parents.

A Disney spokesperson commented on the episode being pulled, saying, “When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the character involved in the storyline remains in the show, however dialogue that referenced gender identity has been cut.

Disney has declined to comment any further on the matter.

However, this isn’t the first time the house of mouse has found itself in the spotlight for its handling of LGBTQ+ storylines within its productions.

Most recently, it was revealed by an insider that an episode of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur was also pulled due to featuring a transgender character.

It seems Disney’s decision only impacts media aimed at younger audiences.

The recent Marvel hit, Agatha All Along featured an LGBTQ+ storyline and romance, one of the biggest film releases on Disney+ this year was All of Us Are Strangers, a film featuring a gay romance.

The actress, who came out as transgender some time ago and who plays the transgender character on Win or Lose, Chanel Stewart, told Deadline that she was “very disheartened.”

She continued, “From the moment I got the script, I was excited to share my journey to help empower other trans youth. I knew this would be a very important conversation. Trans stories matter, and they deserve to be heard.”

Win or Lose debuts on Disney+ on 19 February 2025.
