Folks, it’s time we made peace with the fact that we won’t be getting Fallout 5 for a long, long time.

Bethesda is just too busy. They’re hard at work on The Elder Scrolls VI, and they just don’t have the time to pump out a whole new Fallout game.

However, that doesn’t mean that we won’t be getting new, official Fallout content in 2025, as Bethesda has just announced that one of their Fallout games will be adding some much-requested features in a “Thank You” letter to their fans.

As revealed in an update penned by Jon Rush (Creative Director) and Bill LaCoste (Lead Producer), Fallout 76 is getting some exciting new content next year.

“And what would a Summer be without grabbing a fishing pole and heading down to your favorite radioactive watering hole?” states the press release, “No need to worry about finding out because fishing is coming to the wasteland this Summer and is angling to reel-in our esteemed adventurers, collectors and traveling trawlers alike.”

Alright, I know some folks are still sour on Fallout 76, but something about being able to fish in a Fallout game is unreasonably hype to me.

That’s not all though, as (alongside a bunch of free cosmetics and additions to the in-game shop) Fallout 76 will be receiving something that Fallout fans have been begging to be included in every single game in the franchise – playable ghouls.

As expected however, it seems there will be upsides and downsides to your transformation.

“Players who become ghouls will have chosen a life path full of challenges, but one equally ripe with potential. While ghouls suffer no ill effects from radiation exposure… be careful to not turn feral!”

Perhaps most interestingly is a little stinger at the end of the press release, that tells readers to watch out for “The Drifter” in future updates.

There have been a whole bunch of Drifters in the Fallout lore and games, so I have no idea who this could be referring to.

Shame they didn’t tell us to watch out for “The Wanderer” though…
