The release window for Fallout 5 has made some gamers particularly antsy with frustrations vented on the Reddit forum.

Anyone familiar with Bethesda will know that it likes to take its sweet time when launching big releases, whether it’s Fallout and The Elder Scrolls related, or more recently Starfield. To be fair, I’m all for developers taking their time, especially if it results in a better product.

That being said, those familiar with Bethesda will also know that no matter how long a game has been cooking in the oven, there’s a good chance that there will be plenty of launch bugs, as we’ve seen plenty of times such as with Skyrim, for example.

We know that Fallout 5 is on the way because it’s been officially confirmed by Bethesda and no doubt, those in charge of the franchise will want to capitalise on the hype of the critically acclaimed Fallout live-action series as we move into season two.

However, we have no idea when Fallout 5 will be released but there’s a good chance that it will arrive after The Elder Scrolls VI, another Bethesda game that has no release date, despite being announced in 2018.

But some fans are not happy with having to wait years for the release of Fallout 5. “Why is Fallout 5 taking so long and why is it acceptable?” exclaimed a Reddit user.

“There hasn’t been a mainline Fallout game in what has almost been 10 years, and there won’t be one for at least another five years,” they said. “Why is this acceptable from a studio that has made as much money as Bethesda?”

They concluded: “The scary thing is once Fallout 5 has come out, we will have waited longer for Fallout 5 than those who waited between Fallout 2 and Fallout 3.”

“New Bethesda fan?” asked spacepoptartz, to which the author of the thread replied: “No, but I liked waiting when I was younger because I knew a new game was coming.”

“Fallout 5 is gonna go hard in the retirement home,” joked another Reddit user.

“Why is it acceptable? Is Bethesda on a deadline for a new game?” said RexGoliath75. “Right? Maybe they would go faster if this dude would go ahead and underwrite the development. Maybe he should throw a few million their way on GoFundMe or something,” replied Budget_Pomelo in jest.

“Bethesda focuses on one main project at a time. After Fallout 4 was Starfield, then it’s The Elder Scrolls VI, then Fallout 5,” explained Rizenstrom.

“It’s taking a long time because, after Fallout 4, Bethesda made Starfield, which is a massive game with far more quests than Fallout 4,” said Ranos131. “Bethesda is now working on The Elder Scrolls VI, which probably won’t be released until 2026 (at the earliest). It’ll likely be 2027 or even 2028. Then Bethesda will start on Fallout 5.”

At the end of the day, it can be agonising waiting for the next entry for a franchise we love but at least with Fallout 5, we know it’s coming at some point. We’ll just have to be patient until that day comes.
