The future of the Fallout franchise feels a little intangible currently, what with Bethesda focusing on The Elder Scrolls VI, and no news forthcoming on their other big series.

Of course, we have Fallout 76, but it doesn’t quite scratch the same itch, and fans are wondering when we’ll actually get any news on the inevitable sequel.

Even when that news does arrive, some are concerned about the availability of Fallout 5.

One Fallout fan brought up a good question, and a fear that many may have, wondering if the Microsoft buyout of Bethesda will mean that the next game ends up exclusive to Xbox.

In a Reddit post, they wonder, “I’ve been hearing that Fallout 5, as well as all other future Bethesda games, will be Xbox/PC exclusive.”

In the interest of fairness, this isn’t a sentiment that has been expressed by Microsoft, and in recent months, the company has made strides to become more open than ever.

This user goes on to say, “I’m just worried after Starfield being released as an exclusive.”

Another user expresses their thoughts on how this could play out, saying, “More likely, given the game size, cost, and legacy of the series, they’ll give Xbox temporary exclusivity (ex: first 6-12 mo).”

Until Microsoft makes a formal statement on the future of the franchise, we can only guess what will happen.

Hell, even Bethesda hasn’t said that Fallout 5 is in the works – we’re all just guessing.

If I was a betting man, I would say that this Redditor could be correct, and it will have a timed exclusivity for Xbox – if Xbox consoles even exist at that point, because who knows – but it will eventually get to PlayStation.

There’s too much money there to be ignored and left on the table.
