The co-creator of the Fallout franchise, Timothy Cain, believes that violence will always be a part of AAA RPG games because it boosts sales.

Violence in popular RPG video games often serves as a key gameplay mechanic as it makes the game much more immersive. However, violence in video games has been criticized over the years as it can have some negative impact on the players. The Fallout franchise, for example, is built around the idea of surviving in a post-apocalyptic world where combat is necessary.

The creator of 1997’s Fallout, the first game in the series, recently explained in a YouTube video that violence is a crucial part of every AAA RPG game. This is simply because most major video game companies are trying to make money and these combat-based RPG games that are full of violent sequences make them the most money.

Timothy Cain, the creator of the Fallout series, recently talked about violence in popular RPG games on his YouTube channel. Throughout the video, Cain explained why violence will always be a default in AAA RPG games. To sum things up, he said,
Companies make games and in general, products that people will buy – it means games that sell the most – I’m not even talking about review the best, just sell the most, will dictate future games.
What Cain is trying to say is that violence will always be a key part of AAA RPG games, primarily because that is what most gamers want. These types of games sell the most and if developers stray away from this idea, the sales will suffer.
Over the years, there has been a lot of discussion over violence in video games, with many opposing it, claiming that developers often use violence as a primary mechanic, overshadowing other aspects like storytelling, exploration, or character development. Judging by Cain’s statements, it seems like developers will not get rid of violence any time soon since that’s how they generate revenue. This could also be an indication that even the next Fallout game will heavily focus on its combat system.
Many popular video games have violent mechanics

If we look at the list of the most popular games of all time, it is noticed that most of those video games have violent mechanics. Franchises like Grand Theft Auto, Doom, Mortal Kombat and even Fallout, are based on this concept and the violent nature of these franchises is the one of the main reasons why they are so popular now.
As for RPGs, its a well-known fact that action RPGs have managed to sell more than classic non-combat based RPGs. Another reason why violent games sell so much is because games are nowadays promoted like that. Action-packed trailers full of violence often convinces gamers to try out those games. It has been like this for many years now and even in the future, its clear that violence will always remain a crucial part of RPGs.
