Since taking the publisher route and undergoing multiple acquisitions, Xbox has tons of first-party releases planned for 2025. However, Fable is arguably their biggest release, an IP that hasn’t received a new mainline entry in over a decade.
Developed by Playground Games, Fable was initially scheduled for a 2025 release. However, the game has now been delayed to 2026.
Why It Matters: 2025 was looking like a huge year for Xbox, and Fable was considered its biggest release. The game delay might be disappointing for Xbox fans.
In an official Xbox podcast, Craig Duncan, head of the gaming giant studio, announced the delay.
We are actually going to give Fable more time. It’s going to ship in 2026 now
The studio head also added that they’re excited about Playground Game’s progress with the title, and even if the news isn’t what people want to hear, the delay will be worth the wait.
So far, there hasn’t been a single miss in Playground Games’ catalog. Since this will be their first venture into the RPG genre, Fable’s delay makes sense. With high expectations and such a long hiatus, the developers are taking their time to perfect their craft.
Meanwhile, pre-alpha footage for the game was shared, showcasing lush environments. Moreover, the game’s combat looks amazing, with different magical abilities and a wide variety of creatures, from towering chickens to goblins and werewolves.
