An upcoming Far Cry game has been torn down and rebooted for some reason, though that might be a good thing.

Before anyone panics this is apparently about a spin-off Far Cry game rather than Far Cry 7, though it’s said that both games will be offering a very new experience compared to what we’ve seen so far.

The latest rumours said Far Cry 7 will give players a time limit to beat the game under, kind of like the early Dead Rising games if you’ve played those.

This other Far Cry game, apparently known as Project Maverick to Ubisoft, is reportedly a multiplayer extraction game.

Previous rumours said players would drop into an open-world where they’d have to forage for resources and build a base which could be ambushed by other players.

Now it’s said that the team from Project Maverick has been moved over to Far Cry 7, which is apparently known as Project Blackbird internally, and a new team has been moved onto the multiplayer game.

Now this could mean a number of things and almost all of them are positive, as for starters it could mean Far Cry 7 will have a more in-depth multiplayer than previous entries. It also means Maverick might be undergoing a creative reset, hopefully because I personally don’t see the value in a Far Cry game that plays like any other survival game.

At the time of writing it’s unclear how far into development both titles are and which we’ll see first, but if I had to guess I’d imagine we’ll see Far Cry 7 first and the spin-off a few months after, based on previous launches.

It all sounds exciting enough, and hopefully we get a teaser trailer or something at some point this year, though it feels unlikely.
