One of the most unexpected developments from the God Of War franchise in recent years is that Kratos can go pretty much anywhere and pick fights with whatever pantheon of gods he chooses.
While the original God of War series was entirely focused on Kratos tearing his way through the Greek gods for being very naughty boys, the PlayStation mascot has since visited Nordic mythology (and even Egypt in a comic book spinoff).
So, since Kratos can apparently visit various religions as easily as Jack Skellington can slip from Halloween Town to Christmas Town, it begs the question: where are we going next?
Personally I feel like God Of War Ragnarök was the perfect end for Kratos. A former mass murderer and destroyer of worlds becomes a saviour who helps to avert the war to end all wars? That’s a hell of a character arc.
But nobody is ever allowed to retire for long in video games, and a new God Of War is as certain as U2 farting out a below average new album every couple years until we’re all dead.
The truth us, God Of War Ragnarök actually teased multiple potential settings for God Of War 6.
The most notable is South America, owing to a very interesting item description in Ragnarök. But China, India, and Egypt all get a mention.
While some believe this means God Of War 6 could feature multiple mythologies, others reckon it simply means Sony’s Santa Monica Studio has yet to decide exactly where to take Kratos next.
“I think it’s fair to assume that Santa Monica hasn’t made a decision yet on where the series will go to next so they left possibilities in Ragnarök and eventually when the time comes they’ll pick one of them,” reasons one Redditor. “After all, I think they’re making a new IP and the next GOW is still years away.”
Wherever we end up going next, I think it’s fair to say the multiple options currently on the table were all teased in Ragnarök.
