I’m not saying anything surprising when I tell you that Halo 2 is a fantastic game. It’s a universally agreed upon truth.
What may surprise you though and activate those spartan-adoring neurons in your brain is the tease that you can now enjoy a major expansion for the game, the only caveat being that you’ll need a PC.
The ‘Halo 2: Uncut’ mod has emerged and as the name suggests, it restores a ton of cut content originally planned for the title that was ultimately culled by developer Bungie.
“Using evidence found within Halo 2‘s tags, map scripts, and other external media, Halo 2: Uncut aims to accurately restore as much cut content into the game as possible,” the mod’s description reads.
“[It] features pre-release elements such as cut weapons, cut weapon and vehicle functionalities, restored cut encounters and map scripts, and features Director’s Cut-style cutscenes.”
The mod adds a whopping 16 weapons in total – too many to explain individually, but I’ll highlight a few.
You’ll be able to experiment with the Single Shot Battle Rifle, an Alpha-style SMG with slower projectiles but stronger and more accurate bursts, as well as a General Purpose Machine Gun which can be acquired after destroying human machine gun turrets.
As for vehicles, well, there are eight new options including the likes of the Beta-style Banshee, Beta-style Scorpion, and Alpha-style Ghost.
The mod has been around a little while but it only recently launched its 1.0 edition which finally added in the High Charity and Great Journey missions.
As I said, you’ll clearly need to be playing Halo 2 on PC to get involved with this mod, with the creator also noting that you’ll need both the campaign and multiplayer modes for the game installed.
If you tick those boxes, simply head on over to Steam and you can download the mod, free of charge.
It’s certainly enough to keep you busy as we all await news on the next mainline Halo instalment which was first revealed in the latter half of 2024.
