Novelist Harlan Coben seemingly confirms his next streaming series after the success of Netflix’s Missing You, which debuted on New Year’s Day. Based on Coben’s 2014 thriller novel, the Netflix show stars Rosalind Eleazar as British detective Kat Donovan as she uncovers the truth behind her father’s death and her ex-fiancé’s disappearance. The highly-anticipated series is the latest Coben adaptation following 2024’s hit Netflix show, Fool Me Once.

The best-selling author has many of his novels adapted for movies and TV shows, including The Stranger, Tell No One, The Woods, and many others. All eight Netflix Harlan Coben television adaptations, before the latest series, have been rated “Fresh” (with more than a 60% approval rate) on Rotten Tomatoes, with Fool Me Once being one of Netflix’s most-watched shows of 2024. The most recent, Missing You, is currently sitting at the No. 2 spot on the Top TV Shows in the U.S. However, the show is also the first in the batch to receive a “rotten” Rotten Tomatoes score with 52% critic approval and 28% audience approval.

Lazarus Might Arrive On Prime Video In 2025

Coben has previously confirmed that he’s developing another show with Prime Video, titled Lazarus, which is an original series that he co-wrote with Danny Brocklehurst. The series has tapped Daisy Jones & the Six star Sam Claflin to play the titular forensic psychologist, who returns to his hometown and investigates several unsolved murder cases. Bill Nighy is set to play the main character’s late father, and Alexandra Roach will play his sister.

In an interview with RadioTimes, the best-selling author seemingly confirmed the release window of his next TV series. The novelist offers an update, revealing that he has just “finished filming” with the cast. Coben described the series as a “visual” ghost story, teasing that it would arrive on Prime Video later this year. Check out what he said below:

It’s a feel thing. I just finished filming a series called Lazarus with Bill Nighy and Sam Claflin [due later this year on Amazon Prime Video]. That was an original idea. I thought, “I could write this as a novel, but I’m seeing it as a TV series.” It’s a little more of a ghost story, very visual.

It Could Be A Very Distinct Coben Show

It’s unclear if filming for Lazarus has wrapped entirely, but if so, it would put the next Harlan Coben show in post-production, which means that fans will likely be able to watch it some time around fall or winter this year. Coben’s description of Lazarus being a visual ghost story seems to hint at the upcoming series’ resemblance to Dexter, which revolves around a forensic analyst working with his sister at the Miami Metro Police while talking to his father (who’s visualized in the series as a figment of his imagination) about his dark tendencies.

With the series being original, there’s no book to reference, but the novelist has offered some clues as to what Lazarus is about. In a previous interview, the author revealed that the series is a tale about loss and redemption, and it delves into the key bond between a parent and their kid, which stretches even beyond death. Compared to Missing You and Fool Me Once, which were more traditional mysteries, Lazarus has the potential to be a very unique kind of Coben show.
