With the PlayStation 5 Pro finally releasing last month, many games saw themselves receive a patch aimed at upgrading graphics to suit the new-and-improved Sony console.
The PlayStation 5 Pro is the new console on the block with the mid-generation upgrade offering a highly-appreciated power upgrade to the PS5 base model.
With many Sony fans expected to have received the new hardware over the Christmas period, it is no wonder that many studios wanted to get in on the action by releasing PlayStation 5 Pro patches for its much-loved titles.
That was the case for such games as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and The Last of Us Remastered and it was also added for Hogwarts Legacy.
With the Harry Potter-inspired RPG soon celebrating its two-year anniversary, it seems as though developers Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. wanted to offer its player-base an even better experience with its PS5 Pro patch which arrived earlier this month.
“This Patch is aimed to improve and optimize the game’s visuals and performance for all game modes on the newly released PlayStation®5 Pro system,” the developer notes.
With higher dynamic resolution, sharper ray traced reflections and more, the patch initially set out to make Hogwarts Legacy look even better.
Unfortunately, it seems as though the free update has done the opposite.
In a recent discussion over on r/HarryPotterGame, many players have reported a multitude of issues with Hogwarts Legacy since the PS5 Pro patch was introduced.
“Maybe just a misconception, but since the PS5 Pro update of Hogwarts Legacy, I feel like the PS5 version in fidelity mode has suffered a graphical downgrade with less sharp textures,” the initial post read.
It seems it was not a misconception as many other players agreed.
“Flickering textures, slow loading textures, low res shadow maps at random places? Yep…,” one user commented.
Another added: “This has been one of the most obnoxious things about this game to me since launch.
Every few months there’s another patch breaking or downgrading the graphics in some way and it’s so annoying.
The game looked so beautiful at launch but it’s not the same anymore and it’s a shame.”
So if your Hogwarts Legacy copy has been struggling lately, just know that you are not the only one.
