Despite running tons of tests, NetEase fails to give Marvel Rivals the balance necessary for a live-service competitive game.

Marvel Rivals has been on the market for a while now, and many players are joining in to contribute to part of its successful run since its launch. However, there still are a few things that the game could do well with, and readjustments of some of the heroes top that list.

Players have complained about the imbalance in ranked games, an issue NetEase claims to have always been devoid of since launch. Some heroes are too overpowered.

Many heroes in Marvel Rivals could do well with some nerfs. The game has been on the market for enough time to make that assessment. Even players have constantly been complaining about the imbalance issue due to some of the heroes.
NetEase claims that it had run a lot of tests internally, replicating the pro-play landscape to find the right balance, since according to the studio, that is what helps a competitive game thrive. However, some stones were left unturned during the initial testing phase, resulting in the current imbalance.
The studio also claims that it had taken into account a lot of data and feedback received from well over 100,000 players and incorporated them into the game to strike a balance. Guangyun Chen, the lead designer of Marvel Rivals, spoke about it during an interview with The Gamer.
We have a statistic model that helps us to deal with the balancing problem, and we run tons of tests to see whether these numbers need to be adjusted. We also have tests to manipulate what happens when beginner players use a character, and we have super good players in our team to replicate the pro players.
These claims seem to be holding little significance at the moment since players feel the game still needs to nerf some more characters, including Jeff and Hela, who are just too overpowered at the moment.
NetEase needs to take player feedback into account

It is very important for a live-service competitive game to maintain balance since it facilitates a fairer gameplay experience. Nothing is perfect, and it is completely fine to address issues in the spirit of coming up with fixes.
Player feedback is one of the most beneficial assets a live-service studio has. A game’s player community is the perfect place to look when one needs to find out what is wrong with the game.
Live-service games thrive on regular updates and fixes since they help build a healthy relationship between the game and its player community. At the end of the day, games like Marvel Rivals need to keep their player community satisfied to keep them alive in the long run. Do you feel the game is imbalanced?
