Red Dead Redemption fans unite over the prospect of a reboot for the third release in the Rockstar Games series.

Rockstar Games’ Wild West series originally began in 2004 with Red Dead Revolver, a license first owned by Capcom before the Grand Theft Auto publisher acquired the license. While not the best game, Red Dead Revolver was at least fun and the potential of a series was clear to see.

Then in 2010, the series moved in an unstoppable upward trajectory with the release of Red Dead Redemption starring outlaw John Marston, trying to escape the clutches of his former gang family, collectively known as the Dutch van der Linde gang.

We would learn more about this gang and its leader Dutch in the 2018 prequel with Artur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2, which also featured John Martson as well as his wife, Abigail and their young son, Jack.

Fans on Reddit have been discussing the future of the Rockstar Games series. “How would you want the series to proceed?” asked ADvar8714. They suggested either the Red Dead Revolver saga continued or a spin-off with Jack, post Prohibition era during World War I.

“I don’t know if the series has anything more to say at this point. Continuing it just for the sake of having a new product feels pointless,” explained JanetheGhost in response.

They continued: “Moving on to Jack in his adulthood takes the series firmly out of its chosen period, and it’s already said everything it has to say about the death of the Old West and the oncoming of modernity.”

“Did anyone else watch the show The Good Place? It was very popular and there was a lot of interest in further content, but the story ended. Perfectly and beautifully. Another season would have only diluted the impact,” replied Original_Telephone_2.

“Red Dead in an era of the world where there are no cowboys is the most baffling thing people always ask for,” said HeadScissorGang. “It’s not an Old West game if it’s 1920. The whole point is that Jack is the end of everything.”

“Even in 1920, the Wild West was still a thing and cowboys were still around. Granted, not many of them but they existed. Maybe not enough to make RDR3,” replied Historical-Show9431.

Only time will tell if Rockstar Games will release Red Dead Redemption 3 (assuming that’s what it’ll be called). As much as I’d love to see that, I’d only want it if there is a worthwhile story to tell in an interesting setting.

For now, at least, we can look forward to the release of GTA VI, currently scheduled to launch late this year, as long as it suffers no delay.
