Tom Holland wasn’t announced to be a part of Marvel’s upcoming magnum opus Avengers: Doomsday and fans are worried for his future!

So… is it good news or bad news that Tom Holland will allegedly not be a part of the MCU’s upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film? Well, that’s a secondary question, but more importantly, what is he up to?

With the announcement of the cast of the upcoming magnum opus MCU film, the world listened intently as their favorite cast members were announced to return. However, the world waited for Tom Holland, but surprisingly, he isn’t confirmed to be a part of Avengers: Doomsday, and there is a reasonable explanation for it.

What’s up with Tom Holland?

What was supposed to be a normal announcement turned into an engaging event when Marvel Entertainment took to their YouTube and their social media to create a live stream event.

The music would go up to its crescendo, and another chair would be placed with a name on it, signifying their involvement in Avengers: Doomsday. After the 5-hour live stream, there were several chairs placed, and the world got a view of the star cast of the upcoming film.

However, the name that was missing from this roster of actors was that of Tom Holland. Many feared the worst, that Holland’s time as Spider-Man had been done, and the curse of three had returned for the character. But it was only recently that Tom Holland had some news to share about his upcoming film, Spider-Man 4.

So what’s up with Holland, and why wasn’t he a part of this announcement? The world is quite puzzled, but it seems that a notable insider may have the answer to that question. The answer… is bad news for Marvel fans and good news for Marvel haters, if it turns out to be true!

Tom Holland will NOT be a part of Avengers: Doomsday?

As much as it hurts us to write about it, there could be a reasonable explanation why Holland is allegedly not a part of Avengers: Doomsday. It has to do with who has the character rights.

Although Spider-Man is a Marvel character, they sold the rights to Spider-Man to Sony way back in the day. Hence, the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy was backed by Columbia Pictures.

In 2016, Sony and Marvel compromised, and they released Captain America: Civil War under certain conditions, and Tom Holland was able to portray the role of Spider-Man in a Marvel film.

However, according to notable insider Jeff Sneider (and his blog), it seems that the events of Spider-Man 4 will take place at the same time as Avengers: Doomsday. This could result in Spider-Man being unable to help the Avengers when he is out dealing with his own problems.

And although you could argue that Tom Holland is getting his dream fulfilled of starring in Spider-Man 4, it could also mean that Sony holds the trump card for when Marvel Studios can use Spider-Man and when they cannot.

Well, only time can tell whether Holland will be able to face off against Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom or will Sony will use its trump card to play a power move against Marvel. However, what can be said with certainty is that fans would really want to see Tom Holland return to the iconic role.

Avengers: Doomsday is slated for a release date of 1 May 2026 in theaters.
