If you’re a Fallout fan, in particular the early games of the 1990s, then this new Steam game that you can check out today for free might be your cup of tea.
Long before Bethesda Softworks acquired the licence to the ever-popular post-apocalyptic RPG series which saw the release of the critically acclaimed Fallout 3 in 2008 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Fallout was played from a trimetric perspective.

While you can still play those classic Fallout games on PC via Steam, for whatever reason, Bethesda hasn’t decided to release new games with the trimetric perspective or even remastered them. Which is a damn shame.
However, there are a plethora of great games inspired by the RPGs of yesteryear on the Steam platform, such as the game that is the topic of this article.
One such game is from developer Slipgate Ironworks called Tempest Rising which also looks to be inspired by Command & Conquer, is available to download and play courtesy of its pre-release demo on Steam right now.
“Classic RTS action meets modern production and performance in Tempest Rising. Inspired by RTS greats of the 90s and 2000s, Tempest Rising is a classic, base-building real-time strategy game set in a modern-day alternative history war scenario,” reads the description of the game.
“It features three unique factions, each with its own approach to combat and economy and offering a variety of strategies for players of all stripes, deep and rewarding gameplay that keeps a focus on strategy while rewarding skill, and built-in customisation options that allow players to approach the game their way in both single player and multiplayer game modes.”
At the time of writing, there is no word as to whether Tempest Rising will be released on consoles, so for now, assume it’s a PC exclusive.
Tempest Rising will be released on 24 April 2025, that’s as long as it suffers no delay, which is always a possibility.
