Blizzard is doubling down all greedy strategies in Overwatch 2, and gamers believe it’s time to delete the hero-shooter.

It’s been three years since the release of Overwatch 2 back in August 2022. While many thought that the sequel would bring the highly-anticipated PvE mode, all it did was change the base game in ways that not a single gamer ever wanted. With the release of Marvel Rivals, players are flocking out without a second thought.

You’d think that now that Blizzard has some competition in the hero-shooter genre, it would get rid of everything that players hate in Overwatch 2. However, that’s not the case, as the company is doubling down on all the greedy tactics in Overwatch 2, and their latest move has annoyed whatever player base is left of the game.
Overwatch 2 players can’t understand Blizzard’s greedy tactics

There’s no denying the fact that the currency and skin system we have in Overwatch 2 has come a long way since the days of the original Overwatch. Gamers could get all of their cosmetics from loot boxes and even purchase them with credits. All they had to do was play the game, rack up credits, and get their favorite skins.
Blizzard decided to switch up things with Overwatch 2 and chase the industry trends with a shop that rotates rare skins. While Overwatch Coins are the game’s premium currency, Overwatch Credits, also known as “Legacy Credits,” are the play-to-earn currency that can be used to get legacy cosmetics.
It’s great that there’s some way to purchase all the legacy cosmetics in Overwatch 2 without draining your wallet. However, what’s the reason behind Blizzard jacking up the prices of legacy skins out of nowhere?
If you’re someone who’s played the original Overwatch, you’ll know that they cost just 1,000 credits in the game. So, Blizzard raising the prices for skins that have been there for 7+ years at this point doesn’t make any sense at all. As gamers have pointed out, it’s quite clear that Blizzard is being greedy and pushing gamers, so they run out of free currency faster and invest in the premium one.
It’s high time for Blizzard to put an end to such predatory monetization practices. Otherwise, it won’t be long before Marvel Rivals completely stomps the game, as it has already learned from Blizzard’s mistakes and brings a monetization plan that is appealing to every single gamer.
Overwatch 2 desperately needs hero-stories

One of the many reasons why Marvel Rivals is a success is because it is a part of one of the biggest IPs that allows NetEase Games to pull a deep well of characters in the incredible Marvel universe. It’s why developers are expanding all the hero narratives with MARVEL RIVALS comic seasons, events, and individual hero stories.
Now that Overwatch 2 has clearly abandoned all its plans for a full-fledged PvE mode, Blizzard can follow Marvel Rivals’ path and keep the story side of things still alive. Even though we have a Missions Codex, it is far from the full package.
Lore fans of the Overwatch franchise were excited to see the second half of the missions, which, based on everything from BlizzCon 2019, seemed to include Suravasa as a story location. Since gamers want to see all the members of Overwatch reunite alongside Ramattra’s plans for Null Sector, hero stories can go a long way.
Even though we have things such as Overwatch: Declassified- An Official History, which contains aspects of how the now abandoned story would’ve progressed, they don’t have the accessibility of merging hero stories into the title.
With the help of unlockable in-game stories just like Marvel Rivals, Overwatch 2 would be able to expand the lore even further.
With that said, do you think Blizzard needs to change Overwatch 2‘s monetization model? Let us know in the comments below.
