A classic gameplay mechanic that was removed from the Assassin’s Creed franchise has made a comeback in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

After two delays, Ubisoft’s latest Assassin’s Creed installment, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has finally been released on PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox Series X/S, and macOS. Despite its controversies, the game has managed to have a solid start. It’s not really surprising as Shadows is one of the most detailed Assassin’s Creed games to date as Ubisoft developers have spent a lot of time making the game immersive and stunning.

Many have complained that Ubisoft made a mistake by removing the viewpoint synchronization animation as it has been a part of every Assassin’s Creed game, however, the game brings back this one gameplay mechanic that only veterans remember. Double Assassination is a move that allows players to take out two enemies at the same time. This feature is finally making a comeback as Assassin’s Creed Syndicate was the last game to have it.

Diehard fans of the franchise may have found a few flaws in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, but they can forgive the game as it features Double Assassinations, a move that was removed after 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. In this clip shared by a user on X, one can see that Ubisoft has made sure that the move is as brutal as it was back in the day.
9) Double Assassinations
Can you believe the last time we got PROPER double assassinations in AC that weren’t weird chain kills or throwing a knife was a DECADE ago with AC Syndicate?

When it was announced that viewpoint synchronization animation was not a part of this game, there was some backlash as players suggested that it was a unique touch. However, the return of the dual assassination move is enough to prove that Ubisoft hasn’t removed any of the core elements from Shadows to keep reminding players that they are playing an Assassin’s Creed game.
The studio has spent a lot of time making the game as immersive as possible. Visually, the game is outstanding as it appears Ubisoft has done a great job at optimizing the game for all the platforms.

In many ways, Shadows is different from its predecessors. In terms of its open world, it features dynamic seasons, Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer, that directly affect the gameplay, allowing players to play the game in four different environments. In terms of combat and gameplay, the game allows players to complete missions as Naoe or Yasuke, two different characters with unique combat styles. This also gives players the freedom to complete the missions however they like.
While on the topic of protagonists, it is to be noted that the portrayal of Yasuke stirred up a lot of controversies. People claimed that Ubisoft should’ve picked an Indigenous Japanese Samurai instead of Yasuke, but the studio claimed that they wanted players to explore Feudal Japan from the eyes of a “foreigner.” Despite the controversies, Shadows has managed to push through as Ubisoft has revealed that the game reached over a million players on launch day.
