There are millions of people looking forward to playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows later this month, and many have been eagerly awaiting the new adventure since its announcement.

The new Assassin’s Creed game, while being the very first game in the series developed solely for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X, the game will come to PC, also.

However, there will be a portion of the player base that won’t be able to enjoy the game, and it shows the restricted specs of handheld gaming.

Reported by GamerRant, Assassin’s Creed Shadows won’t be playable on Steam Deck.

I’m not overly surprised by this. The Steam Deck is now a few years old, and AAA games that push the boundaries of visuals are going to start struggling on Valve’s hardware.

To be fair, there probably aren’t that many people wanting to play this cinematic adventure on a handheld, but if you count yourself among them, it’s looking unlikely the game will run on anything portable.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is billed to be a gorgeous experience, and you’ll need the hardware to fully relish the visuals.

Over on Reddit, fans aren’t all that surprised as the news reached the message boards.

“It was bound to happen sooner or later. The Steam Deck is great, but all tech becomes obsolete eventually,” comments HenshinDictionary.

As a Steam Deck owner myself, I love the machine for its ability to play lower end games, but I’ve always thought that AAA games were beyond the hardware.

Sure, it runs Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077 at 30fps, with some scaled down visuals, but it’s never going to showcase a new title like this.

If you’re eager to play through Naoe and Yasuke’s adventure, you’re better off sticking to a home console, or your gaming rig – both of which will show off Japan perfectly.
