When Emilia Clarke Called Her Time As Daenerys Targaryen On Game Of Thrones As Incredibly ‘Special And Rare’ (Image credit: IMDb)
Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke will forever be known as the Mother of Dragons. Daenerys Targaryen became one of the show’s most popular characters. Emilia was nominated for several Emmy Awards, Critics’ Choice Television Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Awards and landed roles in the Terminator and Star Wars franchises. Later, she headlined other projects like the films Above Suspicion and Last Christmas, as well as the Marvel series Secret Invasion. But she still holds her Game of Thrones experience close to her. Here’s what she said.
When Emilia Clarke called Game of Thrones experience ‘special and rare’
In a 2024 interview with PEOPLE, the actress had shared how she felt about the show, based on the George RR Martin book series, now that she had some time away from it. She stated, “The more distance I have from Game of Thrones, the more I can quantify it.” When I started, you don’t know what you’re doing, you don’t know what you’re surrounded by and you don’t know what you’re taking part in.”
Daenerys Targaryen was Emilia’s third professional role, and it led to her being cast in more film and TV roles. She went on to add that she felt much fondness for the show and how precious it was. Emilia said, “Now, as more and more time goes between it and me doing it, the more I’m like, that was incredibly special and that was incredibly rare.”
Emilia Clarke’s upcoming projects
The actress recently voiced the Queen of Hearts in the animated film, The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland. The musical, which was released in the UK around Christmas, also features the voices of Gerard Butler and Bridgerton’s Simone Ashley.
Up next, she will star in the Amazon Prime Video series Criminal with Charlie Hunnam, Adria Arjona, Ricky Lawless, and Kadeem Hardison. That will be followed by the Peacock series PONIES. She will also executive produce the Cold War spy thriller being helmed by The Flight Attendant’s Susanna Fogel and Mr Robot’s David Iserson.
