This game is very underappreciated

If you want to play a game that can be described as The Legend of Zelda meets Assassin’s Creed, then you’re in the right place.

Released in 2020 on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch, Immortals Fenyx Rising (originally called Gods and Monsters), is an underrated game that flew under many radars in a year that also saw the likes of The Last of Us Part II, Ghost of Tsushima, Final Fantasy VII Remake and much more.

“Play as Fenyx on a quest to save the Greek gods from a dark curse,” reads the synopsis of the game. “Take on mythological beasts, master the legendary powers of the gods, and defeat Typhon, the deadliest Titan in Greek mythology, in an epic fight for the ages.”

Despite being missed by many gamers, Immortals Fenyx Rising still earned respectable scores of 81 and 7.7 from critics and users, respectively on Metacritic. However, at least when it comes to publishers, sales is where it matters most and Ubisoft is no exception.

In 2023, VGC reported that Ubisoft had intentions of developing a sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising but was put off by its sales said to be 70% less than Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Which to be fair, seems like an unreasonable comparison to the massive Assassin’s Creed series.

Poor sales aside, that’s not to say that we can’t show Immortals Fenyx Rising some well-deserved love and if for whatever reason, you’ve never played this game, you can download its free demo across all available platforms right now.

What’s more, if you discover that Immortals Fenyx Rising is your cup of tea, not only is it currently included in PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium and Xbox Game Pass but it’s also heavily discounted, at the time of writing.

On PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch, Immortals Fenyx Rising is just £6.99 digitally for the standard edition and £3.49 on PC Steam. Moreover, it’s also a few quid more for the Gold Edition which comes with additional DLC.

We may not be getting a sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising, but believe me, when I say, there’s still plenty of fun to be had in this underappreciated 2020 game.
