Owen Cooper , the 15-year-old actor who plays Jamie in the Netflix series “Boyhood,” revealed an unpleasant detail about a tense scene in a behind-the-scenes video.
Owen Cooper shared details about a tense scene from the series “Boyhood” in a behind-the-scenes video released by Netflix. The actor starred opposite Erin Doherty (“The Crown”), who also narrated the scene.
“Adolescence” marks Owen Cooper’s television debut. The 15-year-old actor is already up for several awards thanks to his impressive performance in this new Netflix miniseries.
In the third episode, Owen’s character, Jamie, is interviewed by child psychiatrist Briony Ariston, played by Doherty.
Briony offers Jamie a hot chocolate, half a sandwich, and some marshmallows. As the conversation progresses, Jamie slowly sips his drink. That’s when Owen reveals a surprising piece of information.

The actor revealed that the hot chocolate was replaced because it complicated filming, so they used another drink that tasted much less pleasant.
“It was horrible. It wasn’t hot chocolate anymore because they had to replace it. The original drink made the floor too sticky for camera movements,” he explained.
At one point, Owen’s character spills the drink, forcing the crew to quickly clean the table so as not to interrupt filming.
Also in the behind-the-scenes video, Erin Doherty praised her colleague’s performance in “Adolescence.”
“It takes a lot of skill to balance anger and vulnerability. The fact that you can express those emotions without turning the character into a monster is really impressive,” the actress commented.
