Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant, the EPs behind the series, explain to The Hollywood Reporter what the Jackal is up to in season 2, which has already received a green light. Neame shares that “there’s a serious bit of unfinished business” for the Jackal, with his wife and child’s whereabouts unknown and a debt being owed. Marchant further teases that they “know what his priority is, in terms of what his next mission will be,” meaning his family, but whether the Jackal will succeed is for season 2 to answer. Check out what they said below:
Neame: There’s some serious bit of unfinished business.
Marchant: We actually know what his priority is, in terms of what his next mission will be. He’s trying to find [his family]. Whether he does or not, let’s see.
What This Means For The Jackal
The Jackal Is On A Different Kind Of Mission

It sounds like season 2 will pick up where season 1 left off. The Jackal has struggled quite a lot during his last mission to take out a tech billionaire, Ulle Dag Charles, aka UDC (Khalid Abdalla). Hired by the competitor, Dance Timothy Winthrop (Charles Dance), the assassin was supposed to stop the launch of River. However, the Jackal fails to deliver the shot at the launch. He makes another attempt in the two-episode finale and finishes the job.
Our Take On The Day Of The Jackal Season 2
The Jackal Has A Decision To Make

The decision was made in season 1 when the Jackal took on what was supposed to be his last job before retirement. It seems that season 2 will continue this nuanced discussion and hopefully reach a verdict. Whether the Jackal is capable of maintaining a family life is a burning question that season 2 will need to address, especially now with a target on his back, an unpaid debt over his head, and Bianca’s discovery of his home life. The highly rated The Day of the Jackal gives fans a lot to look forward to at the end of season 1.
